Housepitality Designs

it's all about the hospitable home

The Great Room Christmas Tree

It takes me 2 full days to decorate the Great Room Christmas tree.

So many ornaments that I treasure to place on the tree.

The tree is a 9 foot Silverado Slim that I purchased

from Balsam Hill a couple of years ago. It replaced my 12 foot tree,

that truly got so cumbersome to decorate.

Always up and down a very tall ladder, so this 9 foot tree is easier to manage

not to mention taking up much less space.

Each year I try to come up with something to place by the tree.

I then remembered that I had an ottoman stashed away that I received

as part of our French Country Soft Surroundings Tour.

The ottoman goes with my Helena chair. The ottoman was in another room

waiting for me to find a smaller coffee table so the ottoman can fit!

The other day, I went to my favorite garden center (privately owned) and saw this

magnificent fresh evergreen  wreath with magnolia leaves.

It looks as though it hopped off the pages of Southern Living Magazine.

The wreath is 36 inches in diameter. It is rather large.

I already had two gorgeous fresh evergreen wreaths on my doors, but I could not pass this beauty

up ….. Especially at $27.00! They are handmade by the owner of the garden center.

I used the wreath as a back drop to the ottoman.

The ottoman got a bit lost against the stair railing.

I bought several Sugar Paper boxes from Target. Great for decorating

and of course gift giving. Just a simple bow and there you have an elegant gift box!

I covered a small lidded box with a gold striped paper also from the Sugar Paper line.

As I mentioned before, the tree is filled with many, many, and many

ornaments collected over the years, to include Radko, handmade ornaments,

by my son and granddaughter, ornaments collected in my travels,

vintage ornaments from my late mother-in-law,

and even the first set of ornaments my hubby and I bought for our First Christmas.

Love the way the tree lights up the room.

Now I am trying to remember whether this bird is the Calling Bird

or the French Hen. As you can see the wreath is rather large,

about one-third the size of the tree!

Tomorrow I work on my front porch.

I have already hung some beautiful fresh evergreen  wreaths on door.

I will be decorating and shivering too, as it will be a truly cold day!

I am also working on my bedroom. I am truly keeping it simple in that room this year.

So come back on Sunday to see my mini Christmas Home Tour.

I am a part of the 12 Days of Holiday Homes. It is a wonderful Tour of Homes

filled with fabulous Christmas inspiration for your home and family.

Hosted by the lovely ladies at Evolution of Style and 11 Magnolia Lane.

Beautiful as always. ๐Ÿ™‚ You made me rethink using my keepsake ornaments. ๐Ÿ™‚ I might add them to my tree that is already decorated.

Shirley, your tree is gorgeous. I love all of the rich color, and your ottoman looks perfect by the tree. What a bargain on that beautiful wreath! If I was there, I would of had to buy one too! It is getting very cold here too. Yesterday, we didn’t get out of the upper 20s. It is supposed to dip down to 15 tonight. However, on Sunday the high is 64. That is crazy Oklahoma weather for you!!! I hope that you have a wonderful weekend, and try not to work to hard decorating your porch!

Your tree is always magnificent. All of your ornaments that have such special meaning and memeories are a treasure. I love the ottoman next to it. The wreath is gorgeous and what a steal! I would have grabbed it too!!!! It is 31 here right now but with VERY high winds so feels like low 20’s:( I am staying IN today! Have a very merry weekend yourself and stay warm doing the porch!

Your tree is so beautiful!! No wonder it takes you 2 days to decorate. My daughters and granddaughter have been helping me decorate mine the last few years. I cannot go up and down a ladder anymore. My tree is aging like me. Each year I hold my breath that all the lights will work. 11 years and counting. My girls have suggested smaller trees should replace this one. I think they want me to decorate. Ha!

Your tree is gorgeous as always! I guess I love it because it reminds me of mine…with all the family ornaments, but a tad smaller! Hope you can stay warm…we are having a cold snap too and up to 10 inches of new snow! Looking forward to Sunday’s tour! ๐Ÿ˜‰
