100 Days of Letting Go and More Pink

You are probably wondering, 100 Days of Letting Go and More Pink? What does that mean?

I have always wanted to begin this project, however, just never got around to actually doing it.

A project that my friend Bonnie S. had done last year and is actually doing it again this year.

Oh yes, I would toss out things here and there, when the mood struck.

But, never sticking to the rules of the game.  Game?  That is what I am going to call it.

The “pink” will come later in the post.

100 Days of Letting Go - Housepitality Designs

The Game . . . . . so here are the rules:

On the first day, you toss out or donate 100 things,

the next designated day, you toss out or donate 99 things, and so on.

Now you may think . . . do I have that much stuff to part with?

Yes, you will be surprised.

So join me on my journey of my 100 Days of Letting Go.

100 Days of Letting Go-Shoe Boxes-Housepitality Designs

My closet is rather small when you compare it to my  house being 4500 plus square feet.

I have procrastinated on purging the shoes.

I did not really think of myself of having a tremendous amount of shoes,

like my sisters, a.k.a. the Imelda Marcos twins.

However, when I started letting go of shoes that are too worn, out dated

or have not worn much, I was shocked!

100 Days of Letting Go - Shoes

Now if my friend Linda M. is seeing this, she probably is thinking,

“you still have those shoes? … you bought those 15 years ago!”

Yep!!!!

100 Days of Letting Go-Shoes-Housepitality Designs

I keep my shoes in either their original shoe box or the plastic shoe boxes

you have seen stacked (empty) in the above photo.

In the plastic shoe boxes, I can often place 2 pair of shoes in them. Saves space!

I either label the plastic bin or for the most part,

I take a photo of the shoes, print it out and place the copy on the front of the box.

It is a great way to find the shoes by looking for the picture of them! πŸ™‚

100 Days of Letting Go-Shoes-Housepitality Designs

At one point, I ran out of “shoe shelf” space in my closet,

so I took my “flip flop” type sandals and my ballet flats,

placed them in ziplock bags and placed them in a large drawer.

Now I think I can place those shoes back in the closet now.

100 Days of Letting Go-Clothes-Housepitality Designs

I then went through some of my dresser drawers and part of the closet.

I have done a recent purge of my closet, and still needed to do more.

100 Days of Letting Go-Clothes-Housepitality Designs

So let’s count …. 38 pair of shoes.

Now I did ask Miss Bonnie if a pair of shoes counted as 2 pieces.

I think the answer was NO!

3 belts, and 59 pieces of clothing…now I did count a “pant suit” as 2 pieces! πŸ™‚

I have more of my closet to go through and clothes in other closets!

Day One . . . . 100 things . . . . DONE!

Now on to “the more pink”

I added a little pink to the Master Bedroom and Bath.

Started with some pink roses and a switcheroo of pillows on the sofa.

I added a soft pink ruffled throw to the chair

that I won a long time ago from Janet of Shabbyfufu

I never realized how great it would look with the sofa.

It used to be in my Sweetie’s room that is currently getting a major makeover.

I added a bit of pink to the Master Bathroom.

A little bit of pink goes a long way.

As I am working on projects around the house,

I am also working on adding to the pile of “99”

I think I will be close to the “99”  from one area real soon!

Let the games begin!

Have a most beautiful day!

You are my inspiration! I have been trying to declutter my home for years. It is just so hard for me to decide if I should “keep it” or “throw it out.” I am going to try your little game, and see if I can do it too! Thanks for giving me the willpower I need to give this a try! Good luck to you as well! Hopefully by the Spring our homes will look neat, clean and, most of all, free of clutter!

Shirley, you will feel so much better when you get rid of all the unwanted items. I know it is hard though. I try to do this from time to time, but I know I could probably purge more. We have an attic full and as soon as warmer weather returns it is all getting cleaned out. With kids, you accumulate so much stuff! I love all your touches of pink…so pretty! I am swooning over those beautiful pillows on your sofa! I need those for my living room. I hope that you enjoy your day and that you have a beautiful weekend!!!

She IS thinking “you still have those shoes.”!!! I just donated three garbage bags filled with clothes and shoes. I go through my closet at least twice a year and abide by the rule if I haven’t worn it in a year, toss it! I have never met anyone who holds on to things as long as you do and still has a very organized house. I cannot figure out where you store so much stuff. Good luck with the challenge! Purge on.

Great blog, Shirley! I’m always up for a new challenge, but this time I can’t participate! I’ve been purging my closet for years under the “buy one, toss one rule”. It doesn’t hurt as much this way! Maybe I can take your game into the rest of my home, and see how quickly I reach 100! I think I can, I think I can…..

Well, I didn’t know about this game or would have started counting as I have been purging! I have been doing this since after Christmas and have alot more to do. I, too, have shoes I haven’t worn in years. I will get rid of them too. Thanks for the push!!!! I am loving the soft pinks you are adding and love how the flowers brought out the subtle pinks in your pillows.

Naturally I loved your post!!i am honored to be mentioned!! Tom and I are at it again, this time I count how many per month, and we have to stop purging at 100 items in one day. It gives us a goal and let’s us take a break once we achieve it. We can’t do it daily, so we do it when we can. I’ll be watching your count down.

I do try to ‘purge’ regularly with my own self-inflicted hard/fast rule. If I buy something new to wear (shirt, slacks, shoes, etc..) SOMETHING must leave my closet or dresser. At Christmas or Birthday – if I receive a gift – it’s the same rule. We downsized last year and if I don’t eliminate on a regular basis, there will be no space for living. πŸ™‚

Too fun Shirley. I think this is a great way to purge. I bet it feels good to get your rid of things you do not need and be organized. I am going to work on purging my closet this week too. Have a great rest of the week.

I love the touches of pink:)

I try to keep on top of purging on a regular basis. For those of you storing keepsakes in your cabinets and closets from parents or grandparents, etc that have passed… if you are not honoring the item by displaying…share it with a relative who will.

I started to do this about two years ago. My adult sons have told me that they do not want old china, vases, serving pieces, etc. One item that was special to each grandparent is what they would like.

When I think of the chaos that can happen when families split up the family items and the relationships that can be forever stressed it is truly not worth it. I gave a picture that had seen almost every wall of my home a few years ago to my sister and now she proudly displays it in her dining room. It makes her so happy and makes me happy that she loves it so much.

Thanks for the great idea…I plan to share this with others.

I try to purge twice a year but don’t always get it done. It is amazing how quickly things get cluttered! I’ll bet you don’t even miss all of those “things” when they are gone! Good luck with your “game”! You will still be a winner whether you complete all 100 days or not!

What a great idea Shirley. I think I might just have to try this. Thinking I will call mine 50 days of letting go. If I am successful, I will go with 100 days next year?. Can you tell I am one of those hoarder types? Not really, I just love my stuff. Thanks for the inspiration.

I try to purge clothes and shoes al least twice a year. But house stuff…..i have a hard time of letting go! I always think I might use it again or just love it but don’t have a place to put in rooms. Like your idea of purging.

Because we move so much I know I don’t have 100 things to throw out. Whenever packing for a move things get tossed or consigned or donated. Your pink looks so pretty in your bedroom and bath.

I’m proud of you! I’ve been seriously purging since October…took some time off for the holidays and other things, but I’m back on track now. I hadn’t heard of that method…I just take one drawer, or shelf, or closet at a time. Love the touches of pink too! Purge on! πŸ˜‰

I have to tell you, this game really works beyond 100 when you move. Packing and unpacking does a world of good. You realize how much you have and don’t use or wear. You become very honest with yourself

Wow, Shirley, that is a huge undertaking! With the big move looming in the next couple of months, I’m continually purging – not just clothes and shoes, but other household items. Some furniture will have to go too but not until right before the move.

This is a great idea, I should join in on the game. I know my hubby would be pleased if I did that. He just went through all of his shirts last night, I need to go grab those and count. LOL. Our big purging process is starting again in the Spring, after we get some of the work done in the house this March!! Good for you for purging!! It will be fun to see your progress! Loving the pink you are adding and YES indeed a little bit of pink goes a long way. I got a few of the swatches and the one pink fabric that I was going to use did not work in my room, so waiting on a few more swatches to come in and then I will order them!! PINK girls unite!! OH, I did buy some pink pants and two pink tops for spring!! πŸ˜‰

You are a girl after my own heart….I also keep my shoes in the shoe box with a label….I’m a shoe fanatic! I lost my husband 3 yrs ago to a massive heart attack and sort of let everything go….just didn’t care but this year I made up my mind to pull my life back together and declutter…so…clothes and shoes (only 6 prs) made their way to goodwill. And a huge garage sale will be happening in May.
But just letting you know…when you are ready to purge those blue buffalo pillows…..I’m your gal….hehehe

Oh my goodness! That’s a lot of studff to rid from our homes. But…I’m in! Because we have our 3,200 sq ft home for sale and will downsize I’ve been getting rid of a lot already. In fact I have a box packed for Salvationn army already ? I had foot surgery 2 years ago and had to get rid of almost every pair of shoes I owned so I have very few pairs now. Then a skin cancer surgery last year left a large unsightly scar across my chest and I gave away about half of my blouses and dresses! Wish I could count all that stuff!

I think during the summer time, I got my 100 day challenge done in 2 to 3 weeks! It was horrid, but gosh I’m glad I did it. I have always wondered about the specific color of your couch in your sitting are of your bedroom. Is that a peach or pink, or a little of both? I really love it:) Have a great day, Shirley!

Just imagine by purging all the space that you will have in your closets…you go girl! I do love all the pink you have incorporated, it says spring is on its way! Happy Friday!

Shirley, Thank you, thank you for inspiring me to purge my closet. I have need of letting go of shoes too. My daughter would be appalled at how old some of my shoes are. I have purged some clothes and it was easier to do since they were too tight! That’s an ouch!
Your bathroom and sitting room look so pretty. And those pink roses are gorgeous.
