I had a busy week this past week.
So what did I accomplish?
A Simple Hydrangea Tablescape and More Gilding.
My busy week included getting prepared for cooking and baking
for my turn at our Dinner Group this past weekend
and gilding the lily again.
First, here is what I thought needed a little more glam to its appearance.
I think I just may have acquired an addiction to Rub ‘n Buff.
I took the Rub ‘n Buff in the Gold Leaf to enhance the carvings
in this pretty little French Country accent table.
When I completed “gilding the lily” on the table,
I thought that the vignette on the table needed a little glam too.
So, I added the glamorous Hermes soap and the color of royalty in the purple Hyacinths.
Now, when my hubby sees that tube of Rub ‘n Buff in my hand
he runs … out of the house! As I told him he could use some glaming up too.
And now to one of the other things I was doing this past week.
A trip to Trader Joe’s yielded more flowers for the house,
including blue hydrangeas with hints of green
to be used in the centerpiece of the table.
The color of the hydrangeas were perfect as my tablecloth
had various shades of blues and greens.
The hydrangeas were floated in blue and white bowls, made in Japan (like me!)
I added the faux flickering Luminara candles and real votive candles.
The combination of the two was actually very pretty.
I purposely made this centerpiece and the place settings very simple this time.
Leaving room for condiments, and sauces on the table.
The centerpieces being low in scale so as not to interfere
with conversation across the table.
Waterford goblets, and Noritake Dishes were used.
The place setting consisted of the Modern Day Noritake Summer Estate,
and antique blue and white Noritake bowls in a blue and white Chinoiserie pattern.
Wine glasses were already in the hands of my guests
while they enjoyed appetizers.
The day after the Dinner Party, I had planned to catch up on some chores around the house,
and do a post for Monday.
But hubby and I decided that after a long busy week that he and I had,
we decided to “roll down the windows and turn up the music”
and we had a fun day together!
Hope you had a fun weekend too!
This week will be filled with more Spring purging and fluffing!
Have a most beautiful and fun day!

Such a pretty and simple table. That’s the best kind so guests can converse with each other without looking around tall pieces. I’m glad y’all took a day off to have fun!

I love hydrangeas and I grow them in Ohio. Right now I have a pink beauty sitting In My Florida lanai that I plan to plant in the ground near shade and water sprinkler. Gorgeous table setting.
Beautiful table!! LOVE the low hydrangeas as the centerpiece. The dishes are beautiful too. So, what was on the menu??? Glad you had a fun Sunday together. I set my new table on Sunday as we had Colleen Fri. afternoon til Sat. evening. FUN times as it was warm and we could be outside.

What a gorgeous table! Whenever I see hydrangeas I think of you. It’s funny you have an addiction to rub -n- buff because I went through a time when I was addicted to white wax. I love the detail and the extra little glam it adds to your pieces. Beautiful! Have a great week.

The gilding is so addicting, and your table looks wonderful. All the flowers everywhere are just heaven Shirley, so soft and pretty! Your table is magical {as always!} Psst, I did redo the jester so he fits on a pillow, there’s a photo on my blog today… Good for you and your guy to have a spontaneous day together, fun!!

Seeing the Noritake Summer Estate dishware makes me smile… my mother LOVED that pattern and so wanted to buy it for herself. If she I were ever together at the mall, we had to go by the china and crystal department and let her ooh and ahh over it. But she could never make herself purchase it when she had ‘perfectly good dishes at home’ and was just too practical. Now I so wish she had treated herself and enjoyed that china while she could. She has been gone 4 years now. (So much of your sense of style and decorating is HER and it makes me happy – and some days a bit weepy.)
That table is really pretty with Rub-n-Buff! Your table setting is beautiful! Just classic beauty….
Love the little table with it’s new accents! Your dining table was so pretty! I’m sure you had a great get together with your friends. Sounds like you and hubby had a great day together- we like to do those too!

You have such an amazing eye for detail and color. Love it all. That tablecloth on your dining room table would look lovely in my home.
So pretty. Sometimes simple is just lovely. I love all your guilding too. We are supposed to be getting a Trader Joe’s in our area soon. I can’t wait!
Your sweet little table in the bath turned out great and your dinner table setting was beautiful!

Impeccable taste you have, dear Shirley. I am sure the dinner and conversation was as good as your beautiful table. I love the peaceful soft colors. The tablecloth is exquisite. Have a great week! Thank you for sharing the sweet things in life with us.
The table in your bathroom looks sweet with the Rub n Buff and the Hyacinths are the perfect pop of color. Love your tablescape, as well.
I love the hydrangeas. The tablesetting is so festive and springlike. And I am glad you played hookey, we all need to play.

I’m thinking I’d like to have a good long soak in your bathtub. All I’d need is a book and a glass of wine. Your table is quite lovely and makes me very anxious for the season when hydrangeas are blooming in the Maine yard.

Beautiful table setting and the colors all work perfectly with your tablecloth. Love your sweet little French vignette in the bathroom with all it’s bling. I just learned about Rub ‘n Buff when my dil was visiting at Xmas. She is very creative. I’ll have to try this stuff at some point. Can you believe all this warm weather? Flowers have been popping up and even some cherry trees are starting to bloom, and that doesn’t generally happen for another month! It worries me that a cold snap will ruin it all before everything is in full bloom–hope not. Hugs!
Shirley, I love the small French table in your bathroom, so pretty. I can just smell those hyacinths! The dining Tablescape was so perfect, I never leave anything on the my table to block conversation. I know your guests enjoyed your hospitality and the beautiful tablesetting!

Shirley: Lovely post. I love the table with the hydrangeas down the center, love the small table and so love the chair beside it – everything just so pretty! Great inspiration, first thing in the morning!
This is so pretty, Shirley! Your color palette is so lovely and soft. I am going to use rub’nbuff gold on my nightstands, hoping they turn out half as nice as your little table. Wishing you a beautiful day today, friend! xo Lidy
