it's all about the hospitable home

Summer Porch of Cool Blues and White

Hope you all had a most wonderful 4th of July,

celebrating our Nation’s Independence Day.

We had a great day of celebration with friends.

Today I present to you my upper Summer Porch of Cool Blues and White.

Yes, the porch got a little bit of de-cluttering and staging too,

keeping the space pretty and simply stated.

The first thing that I eliminated from the porch was the coffee table

that was in front of the seating area

and replaced it with my blue and white Chinoiserie garden stool.

To keep it simple, I placed an African Violet

that I had been babying during the winter months on the garden stool.

Still plenty of room for a beverage.

While shopping in a Pottery Barn on one of our Boys of Summer trips,

I purchased these great outdoor pillows that were on super clearance.

Perfect for the summer look on the porch.

Now is the time to find some great deals on outdoor furnishing and accessories.

My “lady” now sits on my tea cart and the pedestal that she previously sat upon

is now in the corner as a pedestal for a fern.

The vintage sewing table was removed and placed in storage for now.

You can see a peek of her in the corner of the porch.

There are garden stools between the sofa and chairs that somehow did not

get photographed ….. just the right surface for that cool beverage.

This upper porch has always been a great place to sit, relax,

and enjoy the view. I love that these colors actually makes one

feel cool with a great sense of calm on these warm summer days.

I also love that this porch can be seen from every room

on the main floor of the house . . . bringing some of the outdoors in.

Rather than traveling this Holiday weekend, we decided to stay home

and continue to work on the house. Our list is getting smaller,

but still have lots to do.

I wish you all a most wonderful day,

making your own kind of music and singing your own special song.

Shirley, I’ve always loved this little porch and the furniture. The blue and white out there is perfection. You are right – it feels cool and calm.

I was thinking of you yesterday and the fact that you are about to downsize. Here’s my advice friend- purge ruthlessly! I thought we did but now as I open boxes, I’m constantly thinking we have too much stuff and why did I keep this? Our new house is smaller than the last but not small…I don’t want to fill it with too many needless things.

I love your porch dressed in the beautiful blue and white. Great new pillows! Even though you have pared down it still is very inviting.

Shirley, your pared down porch is beautiful and inviting just as it always was. Blue and white does make one feel cooler. I am so glad that you have accomplished so much. A glass of iced tea would be fabulous while enjoying the view!

I love your pillows on your porch. They are beautiful and I am always happy for someone to find a bargain anytime but these would have been a real find to me. Just looking out your porch I understand the feel of coolness. Thank you for sharing.

Everything looks beautiful! I love your pretty pillows and that gorgeous rug. If I had a porch like that, I would never get any work done. I would be out there all the time. Your house is so beautiful! I know that it will sell fast!

I LOVE your porch and it looks so inviting as always. I could sit there all day.

Your posts are motivating me to clear out some treasures for other family members to enjoy. I come from a family of five sibs. I am trying to pare down my decorating as I purchase new upholstery items for my living room.

Your home is absolutely gorgeous. It will not be on the market long.

Very relaxing in blue and white! It’s no fun purging for me….lol, I like a lot of things. I did purge years ago and now wished I had kept some things.

Shirley: Your porch is lovely and I am such a lover of blue and white. To me, it is always so fresh and pretty – it is classic. Also, I am in serious love with your lady. She is just beautiful and is so happy on your porch. However, I imagine she would be happy anywhere you placed her. She does add such a special touch.

Don’t work too hard as you continue on with preparations for your move. Enjoy these fleeting summer days.

    Shirley,
    Your porch is so pretty!
I am still thinking about your blue and white bedding that I
somehow missed when it was in stock. Still hoping someone will list the same
set on Ebay so I can have it too.
    Love your style!
