This year my Great Room Christmas decor began with a beautiful flocked tree.
Thus began with the thought of doing a Snowy Christmas theme of
white and neutrals in the room and maybe a pop of color here and there.
Today, my friends and I are partnering with the wonderful company
of Tree Classics for Snowy Sundays, featuring My Snowy Christmas Great Room.
The tree that I chose is the 7 1/2 foot Flocked Alpine Spruce Tree.
It was a perfect fit for the space in my Great Room for its slender profile.
It’s the very first thing that you see when you enter my home.
You know how much I love color, but this year, I really wanted to embrace
more gold and neutral tones …. with a little bit of bling!
Another inspiration was definitely the elegant gold satin sequined tree skirt.
Packages wrapped with sheer gold ribbon, snowy ornaments and beads
lie beneath the snowy tree.
Even my bird’s nest glistens with lots of sequins.
Snowy . . . snowy Sundays. What do I do on a snowy Sunday?
Well I can tell you it is not what my hubby would do.
He would be sledding down the hills of the golf course with the neighborhood kids.
Yes, he fits right in . . . as he is definitely one of them.
They call him the Pied Piper of kids and dogs.
And speaking of the Pied Piper of kids and dogs . . .
there is a special gift under the tree for him.
I placed my antique bamboo stool under the tree to give a special gift
a place of distinction.
I love placing small pieces of furniture by the tree.
So this year, I chose my antique bamboo and cane chair.
A royal gift deserves a crown!
Since we are seeing what lies beneath the tree, let’s take a look
on what is at the very top!
A snowy tree has to have a snowy owl or two!
And a snowy bird too . . . all perched on snowy branches.
I chose to hang gold and silver ornaments with a small amount of blue.
Many of the ornaments are from my collection I have gathered over many years
and there are some beautiful ones added this year from Tree Classics.
A set of the Silver and Gold Ornament Collection adds true elegance to the tree.
Along with the Silver Finial Collection.
Talk about adding a little bit more color, I added these poinsettias to the hearth.
These creamy colored poinsettias remind me more of Winter.
And speaking of Winter and Snow . . .
Let’s talk about what I may typically do on a quiet Snowy Sunday.
Well, Sundays for me is a day that I try to just “enjoy the day.”
So when there is snow on the ground, I just love to sit on the sofa with a favorite
drink and just gaze upon the beauty outside. And if it is actually snowing, that is a bonus!
And . . . if we are lucky enough to have a White Christmas, then it is even better,
as I can gaze upon the fruits or should I say trees, of my labor and just enjoy them.
Now, I must say that I have been a Florida girl most of my life,
with a brief stint (other than the Army bases we lived in my younger years)
in Iowa. Yes, my dad thought it was a good idea to move the family to Iowa,
where he was born and raised on a farm, until he joined the Army for WWII.
Well, we lasted only one winter there . . . it was my siblings’ and my first
experience with snow. . . My Dad said he forgot how cold it was there
and we quickly moved back to Florida!!!
My family had many Christmas traditions and when I had a family of my own,
we soon created our own. I will tell you about one tradition that we had.
Of course I was the one who decorated the tree. The men in the family just
weren’t interested. My hubby’s job was to put the tree up and the rest was up to me
which was fine as I get a little picky and obsessive about my trees!
I always saved two things for my hubby and my son to place on the tree.
My hubby placed the star on the tree and my son would place an ornament
that I had purchased just for him that year. I did that until he left for college.
When he left for college, I found this most wonderful and appropriate ornament.
That ornament became the one he would place on the tree each year when he was away
at college or on his own . . . until he got married.
I will leave you with that ornament, which often times had made me a bit weepy.
Still does!
I am such the sentimental one.
How about you? Are you the sentimental one when it comes to trimming the trees
with your treasured memory ornaments?

Shirley, your home is absolutely gorgeous! Your tree is amazing! Hey, it pays to be picky and obsessive when decorating a tree. I loved hearing the story about your son’s ornament and how that tradition endured for years. xoxo
It’s all so pretty, Shirley! I love the layout of your house. Pretty little spots all over the place. 🙂
How beautiful it all is Shirley! When my boys grew up and left for there own homes, we packed up and sent their special ornaments with them.

Shirley, as always you have decorated a beautiful tree. I have enjoyed waiting for your next adventure that you add to your beautiful home. I am loving the touches of nature the birds and owls, that of course go with trees. I have one special ornament that goes on my tree each year, a Christmas elf my son made in kindergarten and he is now 52. I call him the keeper of the tree.
BEAUTIFUL!!!!
I love it! Beautiful! Gorgeous! You always have the touch, Shirley! Thank you for sharing. And I would be with you on the couch watching the beauty of a snowy day. Sentimental is good! It brings so much joy and gratefulness to life! I would love to step through your front door. But pictures are worth a thousand words. Thank you.

Shirley, that truly is a gorgeous tree! I love the sparkle of silver and gold. Winter and snow has not come to Utah yet. It has felt more like spring. I am loving it, but we really need the snow!

The flocked tree is a beauty and with your ornaments it’s gorgeous! I love how you did the top – beautiful! We should be getting snow this week- perhaps the cooler weather will make it’s way to your area soon.

Your tree is quite the show stopper. I USED to be picky about my tree and the decorations on it. Those days are past – I’ve edited and edited – and now I’m down to a little 3-footer. Ha. Obviously it takes less time to decorate and un-decorate than the former 10 foot tree. Now I’ve got to talk myself into editing all those unused ornaments taking up valuable closet space. I love your decor – but even more I love my lack of decor to dismantle when the holidays are passed.
p.s. – admittedly I do still have all my daughter’s hand-made decorations from her grammar school years – and she will be 40 this year. Mothers…that’s what we do.
Shirley, I believe you are the queen of Christmas trees! Your tree is stunning, my friend! You have a real talent in putting it all together and making it the piece de resistance! What a sweet Precious Moments ornament and I am so sentimental!

Oh, Shirley. Your decorating always speaks to me, and this lovely white tree is just gorgeous! I have to admit that I like the “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” best of all, though. SO sweet–and I know just how you feel!
This gorgeous flocked tree looks completely at home in your majestic room Shirley. I just love the tone on tone decor with the tree following along the lines of the room. The gold accents make it sparkle!
Everything looks beautiful Shirley!
