A Blue and White Floral Vignette

The other day I received my copy of Southern Lady magazine.

It was their Annual Decorating issue.

When I saw the cover, I gasped!….That’s my pretty lidded jar!

The cover, like many covers of beautiful magazines,

gave me the idea and inspiration to re-create it.

So here is my version of a Blue and White Floral Vignette,

right off the cover of Southern Lady Magazine!

Here is my inspiration:

Southern Lady-Housepitality Designs

Isn’t this cover truly beautiful?!!

I so love making floral arrangements and I intend to make and present

an arrangement hopefully at least once a week. Hmmm….should I do a Floral Friday?!!

Blue and White Vignette-Housepitality Designs-9

The vignette started out with this lidded blue and white jar

that I purchased months ago from my favorite consignment shop,

Always Home, in Durham, N.C.

I always find such beautiful things there.

When shopping in an antique shop with my sister in Florida,

I came across this beautiful blue and white pitcher.

I thought, this pitcher would be perfect for the vignette I wanted to re-create.

When I arrived home from my Florida trip, I began to gather the items of

vintage books, antique blue and white teacups and saucers

(that were formerly my friend Martha’s), pretty flatware,

and a blue and white bowl for the floral arrangement.

I placed a vintage book under the floral arrangement as it was shown

on the magazine cover.

Flowers of hydrangeas, mums, roses and seeded eucalyptus are from Trader Joe’s.

Since the pitcher was a bit larger than the one pictured on the magazine cover,

I placed a vintage book under the lidded jar to give the jar more height to keep it within scale.

Did I tell you that I love making floral arrangements?!! …. I guess I have . . . many times.

They make you and your home happy. Happy Home, Happy Life . . . or is that

Happy Wife, Happy Life. I will go with both of those philosophies!

Blue and White Vignette-Housepitality Designs-7

Hope you loved my blue and white vignette

right off the cover of one of my favorite magazines.

Do you like to re-create something right off the pages of your favorite magazine too?

I wish you a most beautiful day and wonderful weekend making one smile.

I made my hubby smile big time  when he saw that I had shoveled the snow

off our huge driveway!

I hope that those who are in the path of Winter Storm Grayson are safe and warm!

Lovely post, Shirley. I am truly a blue and white girl and have collected it for years. Personally, I don’t feel there is anything prettier.
Your floral designs are lovely and always catch my attention. I do know and understand floral design, having studied it, entered and won many flower shows. But, mainly because my mom was a National Flower Show Judge, floral design was fed to me daily. It would be a special treat for all of us if you would do a design weekly. There is always something to learn and it is wonderful to see them through different eyes.

Beautiful! Such an inspiring look for these gloomy winter days and yes, Floral Friday sounds like a great idea. Since you do it for yourself anyway, why not inspire others with your combinations? It’ll also give you the opportunity to be creative with your vintage finds as vessels.

I love blue and white. I do. But I had gotten kinda bored with it. Until I saw this! Wow, I can’t wait to go through my collection and try my hand at this! Thanks for the inspiration! Oh dreary winter day, you have lost your hold on me! After all, I’ve going on a quest….to find the perfect pieces to try to recreate Shirley’s beautiful version of blue, white, and fabulous!

You make gorgeous floral arrangements and this one is spectacular! Love that lidded jar and the whole vignette! I should have shoveled for Joe but he beat me out there. It is brutal here, 14 right now. Plus the WIND is crazy so our wind chills are below zero. Can’t wait til this is over. Have a beautiful weekend!!!!

Absolutely beautiful! And I love both “Southern Lady” and “Victoria” magazines. There is just something about blue and white. You do a great job of floral arrangements. I too love flowers and usually get them once a week or until they begin to wilt. Some will last two weeks. Keep up the great work!

I love blue and white Chinese pottery and bought three more pieces on Sunday. I picked up that Southern Lady magazine this week and thumbed through it, but didn’t bring it home. Floral Friday sounds great. Nice looking arrangement BTW.

Beautiful blue and white vignette Shirley and a little flowers therapy in January is always welcome! Years ago someone had a blog hop party with the theme of recreating a vignette from a magazine, it escapes me which blog it was since I didn’t participate but I always thought that would fun for someone to do again.
