Ironstone Pitchers of Summer – Floral Friday

Hello Dear Readers.

Welcome to another fabulous Floral Friday,

when I join my sweet Floral Friday friends, Lidy, Mary and Pam

to present fantastic floral inspiration for you to enjoy!

The links to these fabulous ladies’ floral creations are below their image

at the bottom of this post.

Hope you all had a most wonderful Independence Day . . .

I am up to my elbows and beyond in moving and packing, so today I am

presenting one of my most favorite floral vignettes that I had presented to you

years ago for my Ironstone Pitchers of Summer – Floral Friday.

I believe it was George Bernard Shaw that said,

“Imitation is not just the sincerest form of flattery,

it is the sincerest form of learning.”

And that is what I did today . . . learn . . . from some of the best.

I did it again . . . I took a magazine cover

of one of my most favorite magazines and I tweaked it for a summer vignette.

I was in love with this cover of The Cottage Journal

the minute I pulled the issue out of my mailbox.

I did a similar “copy kat” with another magazine cover HERE

Being that I so loved this cover of the Cottage Journal,

I decided that it was time to use another magazine cover for inspiration.

Hydrangeas-Housepitality Designs-3

It has been so very warm, here. My hydrangeas are suffering a bit,

so I try and clip some every day before the heat gets to them.

Hydrangeas-Housepitality Designs-2

Instead of using oranges as they did on the cover,

I used one of my favorite fruits of the summer, peaches.

Smaller blue vintage bottles used rather than the large ones on the cover.

I am enjoying doing these “copy kat” vignettes.

Even though you may not have all of the exact items that the magazine cover displays,

it is fun to tweak it a bit using what you have on hand to create the same effect.

When I was photographing this summer vignette years ago,

I had a little buddy that I had to work around.

He was at my feet sleeping. I did not want to wake him to move,

as he  was an old man of 14 and needed his sleep!

I was granddog sitting that week. Talk about the Dog Days of Summer!

However, since then, we lost our precious granddog. He was the best!

But he still says hello, every time I clean and find his soft fur lurking in a corner.

  1. Just beautiful Shirley! I loved your posts when you take inspiration from a magazine cover. You have me craving some juicy peaches now! We’re in the Dog Days of Summer for sure here. The forecast has us dipping down into the lower 80s for the next couple of days instead of mid 90s…it’s going to seem like a cold snap. 😉 I hope you have a jumbo bottle of Advil for your moving aches and pains. Take care with your lifting. I tweaked my back a couple of years ago when I turned as I was lifting a box. It took me forever to recover. I know you’ll breathe a big sigh of relief when you can take a break are are finally in your rental. It’s always a pleasure to join you for Floral Friday. ♥

  2. I remember that post and your version to make it your own, Shirley. Loved it on the cover, loved yours then and now. Best wishes for a productive weekend.

  3. Shirley, I have always loved your series of using a magazine cover for inspiration. This beautiful vignette has stood the test of time and is still gorgeous. We had a large basket of peaches from Clanton, AL our peach capital of the state. They were so juicy and sweet. Shirley, I can imagine your sore and aching muscles. I know it will be a big relief to finally get everything moved and settled. I love spending Floral Friday’s with you.❤️

Love love love your post. I too have been busy for 5 weeks moving and packing/unpacking and then working on former house to get it ready to sell. At my new residence I was ecstatic to find hydrangeas on sale for spring, I snatched them up because I had transplanted my favorite hydrangeas from my former home and wanted to add more. Somehow I found the time to get them all planted and have been nursing them along. Some day I will have a wall of hydrangeas to gaze at and cut for arrangements.

  5. I remember that beautiful vignette. I loved your version with the peaches. That reminds me I need to go to the farmer’s market for some fresh peaches locally grown. I hope you finish all that packing soon and enjoy the weekend.

  6. Heed Mary’s warning about your back. I am still recovering after lifting some things I should not have lifted and it has been two months. Actually, I am going to therapy twice a week now.
Your lovely floral arrangement and vignette has stood the test of time. Those peaches in the scalloped compote are beautiful and compliment your arrangement so well. I like your copy cat cover. Very creative.
Blessings on your move. You amaze me with all you do.

  7. I’m so sorry about the loss of your Granddog! It’s so hard when those things happen.

I agree with everyone else that using a magazine, most especially Cottage Journal, is a fantastic idea! Cottage Journal has been my very favorite since the first issue came out. Your hydrangeas and peaches are beautiful!

  8. I always love when you use a magazine cover for inspiration….I should do that too! I SOOOO miss my blue hydrangea bushes so I bought one last week to keep in a container. I am going to try to winter it in the garage! I wish I could help you with your packing. The end is in sight so stay strong:) Have a beautiful weekend and TRY not to work too hard. I think after this is all done and you are in your new home (after the rental), you will be so glad you did this now and not when you are older. I sure was!!!! LOL

  9. Shirley, your arrangement is lovely as well as the vignette you have created. Those peaches look mighty tasty, but it will be August before we have nice ones in our area. Do take care with all the work you are doing. Moving is certainly not an easy job – but you will be so rewarded in the end.

Have a nice weekend and rest when you can.

Love hydrangeas and that gorgeous bee upholstery!

  11. Your vignette is so pretty. I would love for you to come by and share it at my vignette link up!

  12. I love this Shirley, it is so so pretty! You are so talented at creating beauty, inspired by a magazine cover or not. I hope the move is almost done, take good care of yourself, sweet friend! I love spending Floral Fridays with you. Happy weekend! xoxo Lidy

  13. So pretty always Shirley. I bet you are very busy packing up all your pretties. Good luck with that. I have been right there where you are and I am sending a big hug. It can seem overwhelming to pack up your life in boxes. Good Luck.
Love the sweet pic of your grand dog. I am sure you really miss him. He looked so sweet.

  14. Shannon@belle Bleu interiors says

I always look so forward to Floral Fridays! Your vignette is so pretty! You are so talented at creating the perfect display! I hope that your packing is starting to wind down. I know how exhausting it can be! Take care of yourself, sweet friend!

  15. I love this Shirley. I draw so much inspiration from all these Hoffman media magazines. This is absolutely beautiful. Love what you said about your beloved dog. Floral Friday’s have been amazing. Gave me a very happy heart every time. Try not to overdo..take our advice on that.

  16. Beautiful as always Shirley! Good luck with your packing and moving!

  17. Loved your pictures, but the one of your fur baby brought tears to my eyes. He looked just like my lab that we had to put to sleep a couple of years ago. He too had gotten old and could no longer do the things he was meant to do. But it comforts me to know that they are all waiting for us at the Rainbow Bridge.

  19. Shirley, do you dry your lavender first before you use it in the home? I have seen pics of where a person took ribbon and braided it around the stems of lavender, it was so pretty. Enjoying your floral pictures !

  20. Sorry for your loss of your furry granddog:( May 15th of this yr. we had to say goodbye to our black lab mix, she had a stroke……………
