It is the 3rd Friday of the month and that means,
WELCOME TO FLORAL FRIDAY!
I as always am joining my wonderful and talented friends, Lidy, Pam and Mary
to present to you some beautiful floral inspiration. This week it is all about
Dish Gardens and oh my are you in for a treat today.
You can see their beautiful images and their links below.
Today it is all about how to create a dish garden in your favorite container.
Some of you may recognize this dish garden as I presented it back in the Spring.
It all started with a new bowl by Pottery Barn.
The large double handle bowl from the Sonoma Vase Collection.
It reminded me a little bit of a French Tian bowl (without the handles).
The Tian was mainly used to make Cassoulets, Ratatouille, and
storing fruits and vegetables to name a few of its purposes.
I placed this bowl on the dining room table knowing that I wanted to place some
pretty flowers in it.
A trip to Trader Joe’s yielded a cart full of flowers and pots of
seasonal flowers. Small pots of Purple Hyacinths and Pink Cyclamen caught my eye!
I placed the pots in the bowl to see it they would fit.
In order to place these plants in the bowl I had to remove them from their pots
and place them in the bowl lined with plastic to protect the bowl.
I used a kitchen trash bag for the liner.
A trio of water hyacinth placemats to create a “runner”
were placed under the dish garden for added texture.
A jewel box bird sits upon the sheet moss.
Did I mention that this post is brought to you in part by my friend Sherri?
She had a Pottery Barn coupon she was not going to use and she let me have it
to use toward purchasing the bowl. 🙂
You don’t see the Fiddle Leaf Tree in the above image,
as I removed it for this photo …. it was competing with the Dish Garden.
Now it’s back!
Two of the plants in the dish garden are Cyclamen.
I purchased two large White Cyclamen in November and they are still going strong.
Seriously, they are . . . 8 months later!
When purchasing potted flowers or plants for a dish garden,
it is always nice to select some with great leaves so that they can add great texture
around the rim of the container. Plants that drape downward such as ivy
are great ones for a beautiful cascading effect….the next one!
My dining room was not formal by any means,
so this sweet dish garden fits in well.
The dining room in the rental house “a.k.a. the Berry Patch House”
is not as large and actually the light is not great at Berry Patch….too many trees.
I will so miss this room!
Thank you for your visit to Floral Friday.
Now it is time for you to visit my friends Lidy, Mary and Pam.
Their beautiful images and links are below!
MARY ~ HOME IS WHERE THE BOAT IS
I wish you all a most beautiful day and weekend!!
We closed on the house this past Tuesday and the day after we traveled to Georgia
for a “Boys of Summer” tournament and I brought my mom home with me!
We met up with Kim for a quick lunch on the way home. It was a pleasant break in our drive.
I will be enjoying the upcoming week with her and I just may
be putting her to work helping me unpack . . . . or maybe we will just play!
Stay tuned for our antics!

Good Morning Shirley, I love the combination and bright pink of the cyclamen paired with the purple of the hyacinth. Your jeweled bird box is the ‘jewel’ in your dish garden! Hooray for friends looking out for you and to share their coupon 🙂 I hope you’ll be able to enjoy this week and relax some with your mom and unpack slowly now that you are out of your home. I know you’ll miss the wonderful light and I know I’ll miss your beautiful sunroom…my favorite! I know your new home will be filled with wonderful and beautiful details when it’s built. It’a always a pleasure to join you for for Floral Friday, Happy Weekend ♥
Hi Shirley, I love the PB bowl! It is the perfect dish for your dish garden and your friend was kind to give you her coupon. The cyclamen and hyacinths pair so well together. Your jeweled bird is a great finishing touch. I have a large collection of jeweled boxes and should use them more often. The water hyacinth placemats added just the right texture. I know you are exhausted my friend. Try to get some rest and enjoy the time with your precious Mom. I love sharing Floral Friday’s with you!❤️
Lovely design! I never thought about creating a look like this but it sure makes for a nice instant gardenlike floral display! I hope you will settle in at the berry patch house quickly!
Such a beautiful bowl Shirley! I love the plants and flowers you chose, and the addition of the little bird is adorable! Just lovely!
So beautiful! Glad to hear you have closed and are spending time with you Mom~
Another beautiful arrangement and it’s sad to see your dining room for the last time. Looking forward to see the new house in about a year.
Your arrangement and blog post, along with those of your friends, has inspired me! I’m excited to get started! Your blog is always full of the best information and ideas, and as I sit here enjoying my cup of coffee listening to the birds sing on my porch my mind is racing! Better get up and get started! Happy Friday Shirley!
Shirley, this PB find makes for your perfect arrangement. Congratulations on closing your house, getting through this move, and bringing Mom home with you. You have been an inspiration through this move handling the surprises with such grace. Time to relax a bit and hope you can. Beautiful post.
Lovely, Shirley! I need to be a fly on the wall to see how you do so much!
Great container and selection of plants for your dish garden. The water hyacinth mats were the perfect texture for your vignette.
Try to get some rest. You have to be very tired. I am amazed how you have packed, moved and blogged and it seemed effortlessly.
You inspire!
Shirley, I love the PB dish. At first glance, I thought it was an antique! Your dish garden is just beautiful! Try to get some rest and enjoy this time with you Mom. I hope you all have wonderful weekend!!!
Love your floral Friday’s. I love the PB dish. So unique and pretty. Hope you are getting settled into the new digs.
