Fall Porch

Hello Dear Readers!

I know it is not quite Fall yet; however, I purchased Fall mums quite early.

As soon as my favorite garden center, Dales Greenhouse in Sanford, N.C., brought out

their mums, I was there lickity split as I was participating in a Fall Tour hosted

by the lovely Angie of Postcards From the Ridge.

I was to present my Fall Porch on Friday; however, I was a bit concerned that I would not

be able to participate much if I lost power due to the storm; therefore,

I had to bow out at the last minute.

So here I am today, presenting my Fall Porch.

The first decorated porch of the Berry Patch House.

When I went to the garden center, the mums were magnificent.

They were just budding out . . . so you will see that the mums on the porch

are not fully in bloom.

It was a bit different for me fluffing the porch for Fall this year.

The first time for me at the Berry Patch House.

Hopefully, I will be decorating the new house for Fall next year!

At the garden center, the mums are of such high quality as he grows his own.

The  large blue pots were on the Veranda at our previous home

and they are now on the front porch

holding beautiful mums that are 30 inches in circumference.

Luckily, this vintage plant stand was not in the storage unit (which we have yet to empty)

so I was able to use it on the porch for displaying the smaller mums.

I am sure those of you who have seen my porch decorated previously in my former home,

will notice that the same outdoor furniture is on the Berry Patch House porch.

Earlier in the week, while I was at the grocery store for hurricane prep supplies,

they had a huge bin of heirloom pumpkins. Perfect! No need to truck to the Farmers Market

in which I was trying to figure out how I was going to work it in the schedule.

There wasn’t a huge variety and not many with pretty stems, but the price was right

and it was very convenient for me so that I could finish up the porch.

I was happy to quickly find this pillow in the closet that has bags and bags of pillows.

It was as though it was meant to be to use this pillow that was in the first bag I untied!

I had brought all of the throws over to the Berry Patch house on its hangers,

knowing that I will need them throughout our stay at Berry Patch.

I usually go a bit crazy on the pumpkins for Fall, but under the circumstances,

just a few here and there are just enough for now.

These pumpkins are safely in the garage now….just waiting for Florence’s departure!

They greet friends and family along with this beautiful wreath from Balsam Hill.

It is actually a garland that I received a couple of years ago and I attached it to

a grapevine wreath. It was previously tucked into a vintage tool box. Love it!

Here is how it was originally utilized:

I am already thinking about the porch in the new house. It will be

one that I have always wanted! 🙂

We have not broken ground yet. Meeting with the Architectural Review Board next week

so that they can approve our foundation plan. So many approvals with every step.

I also enjoyed the view of the porch from indoors . . . from the dining room and kitchen.

The Berry Patch House sits on acreage and our views are quite pretty

from both the front and back of the house.

For those still in the path of Hurricane Florence, our thoughts and prayers continue

to be with you. Such awful destruction already and it is not over.

We are very fortunate (at this moment) to still have power while others around us do not.

I know that we will be installing a whole house generator in the new house!!

  2. Your porch is just lovely and those mums are amazing. I really like how you repurposed the garland to the wreath. Glad you made it through Florence ok!

  3. Beautiful Shirley! I am so happy that you are safe and sound. The porch looks beautiful, those mums are indeed glorious! Praying for all those affected by Florence over here too. You’ve made the most lovely wreath for your door, you have such a talent to create a beautiful and welcoming entrance.

  4. Shirley, You’ve put your personal stamp on The Berry Patch House and made the porch so inviting and welcoming for fall! Hooray for grocery stores with heirloom pumpkins! I found a few this week that are tucked away safely in the garage too until the storm passes. We have power still but just read on my Nextdoor App that is off about 15 minutes away from us so we’re keeping our fingers crossed as there is plenty of wind and rain remaining and heading our way. ♥

Your porch is so pretty and colorful, Shirley! So happy that you still have power and hopefully, that will continue until Florence is gone.

  6. Shirley, I’m so glad you were able to join in our porch party after all. Those are some beautiful views of the mums and pumpkins from the inside of your house. How lucky that the first pillow you grabbed was the perfect choice for your porch! Hope you are safe and sound. I feel so horrible about the many North Carolinians that have experienced such devastation.

  7. What a surprise to see you post on Sunday, but now I understand:) I did look for the porch on Friday. You have another wonderful porch to decorate but I am SO anxious to see the new house! I know it will be amazing. Stay safe, we did not go to the wedding. Thank God they postponed it til Nov.3. Have a great week.

  8. I’m so glad to hear that you’re safe and were spared any damage to your home. Your porch looks so lovely! The mums and pumpkins are such a beautiful addition to your pretty furniture. Thanks for sharing the tour info! And hopefully next time there won’t be a hurricane to deal with , lol.

Your porch looks lovely dressed up for fall. I love the blue pots with the yellow mums, a favorite color combination of mine. Glad to hear you made it through the storm safely. It came through here all day yesterday. We had gusts of wind and rain. A few small branches down. Now we are under a flash flood watch. I am praying for all of the people who have lost homes and lives with this terrible storm.

  10. I envy those with porches since all I have is some decking area. You always do a beautiful job with your fall decorating. I have my mums purchased too although not quite that large. It’s about time for me to set them up to enjoy in a more fall like setting. I don’t remember those giant blue planters at the other house. I bet you are anxious to get going with the ground breaking! Such an exciting time 😊. My sister is in exactly the same spot as you waiting for approvals so they can break ground. It seems like it was a lot easier to build a home back when we did.

  11. Your porch looks lovely Shirley and you have such pretty views! I bet those tall, thin pine trees were really swaying in the wind over the weekend! I don’t think I’ve ever seen such tall, thin trees! Now that the storm has passed, I’ll be decorating our porch for Fall. I just wish the weather would get cooler! I’m ready for Fall!

  12. Shirley, the porch is just beautiful with those giant mums and your styling touch. You really have gorgeous views and I am so impressed that you are making your temporary home so lovely. I don’t have a single mum or pumpkin, it was 97 degrees on Saturday. I am so thankful that you didn’t receive damage and continuing to pray for everyone who has suffered such loss.

  13. Shirley, your porch is beautifully decorated for fall. Those mums are amazing! I have been thinking of you, and I am so happy that you are safe. My thoughts and prayers go out to those who are impacted by the storm. Take care!

  14. Shirley,

Love the porch arrangement. That one photo looking out the window from inside is perfect. Great assortment of color and heights. You’re definitely in your element.

Also, I’m so glad you’re safe and dry after all that horrible weather that rolled through your state.

    Have a wonderful week.

  15. Marty Oravetz says:

Your porch is absolutely stunning. Love all those pretty mums and pumpkins

  16. OH how beautiful! Love everything! Nancy
