The Magnolia Foyer and a Winner

Hello Dear Readers!

I hope you all had a most Merry weekend. Our weekend was a special one

as we had our very first snow of the season. It was a Winter Wonderland of Snow.

About  6 to 8 inches of snow fell pretty much overnight,

and by the late afternoon it started melting due to the freezing rain.

Just hope it doesn’t turn to ice!

I have a couple of “snow photos” for you to see and

today, it is all about the Magnolia Foyer and a winner.

The foyer in the Berry Patch house is not large,

so simple Christmas decor is all it needs.

I have always loved Magnolia trees and their beautiful flowers.

I had lived most of my life in South Florida and always wished I had a Magnolia tree.

Then, when we moved to North Central Florida, the thought of Magnolias growing there was exciting!

Good thing Magnolia trees thrive in North Carolina.

Since I do not have a Magnolia tree now (but on my list for the new house)

a beautiful faux magnolia wreath and garland will have to do.

The magnolia garland (from Balsam Hill) simply wrapped around the antique Scottish scale

was just enough to add a festive look.

I did add a small ceramic tree and one of my favorite Santas

that was made in Germany.

Now I can just imagine this Santa walking through the snow bringing gifts and joy to someone.

This special Santa was gifted to me by my friend Martha and I bought the antique scale

from her vast antique collection that she was downsizing.

When I was taking photos of the backyard a.k.a. Winter Wonderland,

I had an epiphany…..I took the Santa, placed it on the ledge of the back patio staircase

and photographed it to give the illusion of Santa cross country skiing!

When I sent this photo to my sister to show her how much snow we had,

she stated, “wow, where did you get that large Santa?” … I had to explain to her

that it was just an illusion…camera trickery!

I took another photo of the backyard featuring the duo of evergreens

that reminded me of the duo of trees I decorated in the Great Room.

TWIN CHRISTMAS TREES

I hung the faux Magnolia wreath (from Balsam Hill) on my treasured antique Louis XVI mirror.

I love seeing my antique French buffet and mirror when I open the door!

  1. Your foyer is beautiful Shirley as is the rest of The Berry Patch House this Christmas! What a wonderful, realistic looking magnolia wreath and garland! Our magnolia tree branches were heavy with snow and ice yesterday. Our snow quickly turned to sleet and freezing rain, I’m afraid to check this morning for fear they snapped off from the weight. I guess I’ll use broken branches and leaves to deck the halls! Congrats to your winner, I know she’ll be thrilled with the fresh beautiful wreath from LCF!

    • It’s snowing harder today…huge flakes…we were supposed to get freezing rain…but got snow instead..a good thing! Hope your branches are OK Mary!

  2. Loving the magnolia in your Christmas foyer and oh, what beatiful snow! Maybe we will get some this winter.

  3. Oh Shirley, your foyer is absolutely beautiful adorned for the Christmas season. I simply adore magnolias. I thought your garland and wreath were real. I can’t believe they are faux….no one would ever know! We were supposed to get a big snow this weekend, but the storm shifted, and we only saw a few flakes. Your Berry Patch house is just gorgeous decorated for the holidays. You have done a wonderful job! Enjoy your day!!!

  4. Penny at Enjoying The Simple Things says:

Your foyer looks wonderful with the magnolia wreath and garland. We got 18 inches of snow yesterday. It snowed another inch last night and it is snowing again right now!

  5. Your foyer is gorgeous, as always! The Triangle schools are closed today, of course, and I imagine the grands will have no school again tomorrow. As beautiful as it is, (and it is snowing hard again this morning!), I like about a day of snow and then want to get back to Christmas stuff…probably no tea at the Washington Duke tomorrow with a good friend!

  6. Your home is decorated beautifully but today my favorite pictures are of the snow as all we got was a cold rain & sleet. The camera illusion does make Santa look lifesize! How clever! The twin trees with the snow are so pretty but your decorated trees are gorgeous! Clara 🎄🎅❄️⛄

  7. Love that photo of the illusionary cross-country skiing Santa! Congrats to the winner of the wreath!

  8. Everything looks wonderful and your winter wonderland is beautiful. Love the evergreens. The Santa picture is very clever. Enjoy being cozy.

I saw on the news that North Carolina got a LOT of snow over the weekend! So unusual to see the South getting hit harder than the Midwest!

I’ve always wanted one of those cool scales! I’ve come so close to buying one many times but always chickened out. You’ve figured out a way to make yours look like a million bucks!

GREAT photography with the skiing Santa!!! You really hit that nail on the head!

Your twin trees tar gorgeous, of course, and fit right in with the rest of your stately decor. I hope you and your husband enjoy this Christmas season in your temporary home!

  15. Love Santa and how you have made him work! Your antiques and the stories behind them truly shows your appreciation for each. These old beauties have wonderful pasts and glow when carefully restored.
Your home is stunning, thank you for sharing it.

Shirley, I am so excited to be the winner of the Silver Deluxe Wreath! I rarely win anything so was most surprised! It will find a special place in my Christmas decor, probably inside so we can enjoy the fresh wintergreen aromas! Thank you so much. And speaking of evergreens I love the comparison of your duo of snow covered evergreens outside with your duo of beautifully decorated trees inside! And the illusion photography of the cross country skiing Santa is great!

  17. I had to look twice to see that the wreath and garland are faux!! They are so beautifully realistic! The snow pics are beautiful as well, and I saw the Santa picture yesterday on FB. Too cute! Your twin trees, inside and out, are beautiful too. Have a merry week:)
