The Winter Great Room

Hello Dear Readers!

I hope you are not in the BRRRRR zone of the country. It is cold here and we may get some

snowflakes, but right now, it looks like only freezing rain is in the forecast.

In a couple of weeks the Great Room will undergo a huge change.

So I thought, I need to show you what is in the room now,  before the transition begins.

I have been reaching into my stash to bring out some winter ambience

with pillows and accessories. There are only two small items that I found at my . . . .

you guessed it . . . . my fav consignment shop (Always Home).

THE WINTER GREAT ROOM

The magnolia garland was removed, and I set out to create a very simple mantelscape.

A boxwood topiary ball in a footed ironstone bowl,

antique books and a pair of candlesticks are all that adorn the mantel.

After I placed the books on the mantel, I knew that I would get an announcement,

“hey honey . . . the books fell down!” . . . “No, it’s my way of doing the unexpected!”

Citrus is abundant in the winter months, so to add a pop of color in the room

I filled my brown Wedgwood transferware tureen with pretty oranges.

I mentioned that there are two new items here at the Berry Patch House from my fav consignment shop.

I found some antique sterling silver brushes . . . a lint brush and a hat brush.

Rather than tucking them away in the bedroom, I decided to place them in the Great Room

for another “unexpected” look.

The Christmas trees are put away and the chair found it’s way back home.

However we shall see where the raspberry Napolean Bee chair lands when the major

furniture shuffle will be occurring in the next two weeks.

I searched for neutral pillows (all pillows from Pottery Barn)

that would blend well with the blush sofa.

Two of my very favorite pillows (the dancing deer) that I have used in years past

were perfect for the winter decor of the room. The heavy textured solid caramel color

pillows with a a burlap trim are the perfect backdrop for the deer pillows.

I love placing solid color pillows behind the ones with patterns.

I cannot wait to show you how this room will change in the near future.

In the meantime, I will be getting my exercise doing my Furniture Shuffle dance moves!

I wish you all a most beautiful day and hope you all will be safe and warm!

  7. The room looks wonderfully cozy! I love all your creams and neutrals, with the pop or oranges. {candle too!} Stay warm, although I think you are only scheduled for a dusting of snow on your lovely home? Your dance is lovely, you have such a gift for creating beauty at home. Xo Lidy

  8. Love your cozy Winter great room with pops of orange! I brought in some blush/pink in my décor in preparation of Valentines to give it some color. I will be doing some furniture shuffling today of my own as we are having a new sofa delivered.

In the meantime, I will be patiently waiting for March to arrive so I can start bringing out some of the Spring décor and pastel colors. I noticed last week that HomeGoods had started displaying some Spring/Easter décor and even if its too early to put it out when you see something there you like you better buy it then because it will be gone the next day.

Such a cozy setting. I am about to order new sofas for my great room. It is hard to tell the fabric type on yours. Would you mind sharing the brand and fabric type? Would love a soft feel.

  10. We have had a few very cold snaps but nothing like the midwest. So unsafe for them right now.

My husband has done that to me a few times with decorating. Enjoy your furniture shuffle

  13. Hi Shirley — You do such a great job with “temporary quarters!” I can’t wait to see what your next change is. I love your simple mantel; I’ve really boiled mine down too.
I’m in Chicago, literally housebound in this frigid weather, so I’ll be plotting and planning and maybe even shuffling things around here today.

However, we are leaving in the morning for FLORIDA, so will escape the worst. So grateful! Your great room looks GREAT! I am intrigued as to what you are going to do, being in a temporary house! I know it will be fabulous though. Take care and stay warm!!!!

You’re always so creative, with beautiful results–can’t wait to see what’s up your sleeve for your next shuffle (although I’m not sure the room can get any prettier). It is frigid here today–I’m bracing myself to get outside for the many errands I have on my list. My heart goes out to all the midwest folks, for sure. Hugs!
