My New Kitchen Design

Hello Dear Readers!

Well, I have stated that I continue to make changes with regard to the house.

I know I am making my builder a bit crazy,

although he never shows it … well maybe,

with a “look” from time to time…

but he is not the only one that I am probably

making a little nuts …. My cabinet guy …

He is so much like my builder and takes

every change and questions with a smile! I definitely think it’s the laid back

attitude here in the South… Whatever the reason, I am fortunate to have a great

builder and cabinet maker that have a sense of humor…you need it with me.

Just ask my hubby!

Here are some layouts of the kitchen design. Get your readers out!

The kitchen was originally L-Shaped, but I have a thing about what I see

when I am at the sink. I like a view of the outdoors.

My funny builder said, I just need to turn my head!

In the original plan, the sink was in the island

and my view was looking into the Great Room.

So I added a peninsula so I can have a view.

The island which will be 9 feet wide,

will house a microwave and warming drawer.

(Yay I finally get a warming drawer!)

Hey you need a warming drawer when the pizza guy comes

and you need to keep it warm!

But truthfully, when we move into the new house,

I will be cooking almost every night.

Now please note the word “almost”!!

The Peninsula

The peninsula  truly did not add that much cost to the kitchen

(cue an eye roll from my builder)

and it allows me to look out to the back yard. It’s all about the view.

Since the sink will be in the peninsula, the dishwasher will be there too.

The cabinet next to the dishwasher will be accessed from the other side,

so no dead space area.

Good idea? … mine 🙂

The cabinets/stove area

On this side of the kitchen, shown above,

there will be 4 sets of cabinets with glass fronts.

The cabinets on the side where the refrigerator will go are all solid fronts.

Quartz is my choice for the countertops.

Refrigerator/Coffee Station/Beverage Cooler

Since the kitchen is truly the focal point of this house, I wanted to be certain

that you would not see a sea of stainless steel. So, no wall ovens. They are

incorporated in the 48″ stove. The refrigerator will have panels.

To the left of the refrigerator will my “coffee station”

Where’s the pantry? I have a large laundry room and it will be located there.

I have more to show you; however, I am making some tweaks.

There will  also may be a change

next to the stove….but for now,

I wanted to give you a bit of a peek

into my kitchen of our future home!

Hope you enjoyed it and kudos to my cabinet guy,

Ricky for being very patient with me!

Have a beautiful day everyone!

It’s going to be fantastic! I like the size of the island- that’s really going to be both functional and a gathering place. I’m glad you found a way to have a view. I agree on your thoughts there! Boy you will love that 48” stove/range. The whole kitchen is going to function beautifully!

When redesigning a kitchen, put function first, says interior designer Jacqui Hargrove. “There’s no ideal kitchen shape,” she says. “Whether it’s a galley or U- or L-shaped, plan for the sink, fridge and cooktop to form a triangle, with no more than 6 feet between each for ease of movement.”

I’m sure it will be a fabulous kitchen if you don’t kill the builder with your changes! 🙂

Your new kitchen design is almost indentical to my kitchen, only my sink is in my 7′ island looking out beautiful French doors to my back patio and yard. It is a cook’s dream kitchen and very convenient. I can’t wait to see the rest of your forever home!

Put overhead cabinets right up to the ceiling, rather than leaving a gap on top that collects dust.” Consider deep drawers for easier access to pots and pans, and include enough storage for appliances that otherwise would clutter up countertops.

    A dream kitchen.
Mine is L shaped and the fridge, stove, sink and dishwasher are quite close together. I love that with moving cold, wet, sloppy to dishwasher or hot to drain off in sink.
I have a big island too. NOT near as big as yours. So glad you didn’t decided to put the sink or the stovetop on the island, that seems crazy to me.
Warming drawer how nice. I’d love one. I’ll bet you’ll use it more than you imagine.

How exciting to be designing a new kitchen. I totally agree with you on having a view outside when standing at the sink. We seem to spend so much time in front of the sink. I like to keep an eye on my bird feeders, not to mention being able to see flowers in bloom. I can’t wait to see your kitchen as it takes shape.

It’s going to be wonderful wish I had been able to make more choices but I am happy here. It would have been so nice to build a custom home but. Your home is going to be fabulous. What color will your cabinets be? How about appliances? So exciting to go on this journey with you. Brings back memories.

ha! We’re remodeling, as you know, and i have that same sweet contractor. {MY guess is that over the years they’ve learned to roll with us ladies} I agree, looking out on something green is way better than your beautiful great room, gorgeous though it will be!

    Happy planning…xo

The area adjacent to the peninsula is too narrow, you will never be able to put a table and chairs there. It will end up being wasted space, Listen to your builder, go with the sink in the island.

What a great kitchen, Shirley! I, too, love having a sink that looks outside. When we built our house, a friend told me to think how you would use each space and I can see that is what you are doing. It makes such a difference!

There’s no such thing as too much counter space. Choose a surface that’s easy to work on and care for. But keep in mind that grout between tiles is hard to maintain and that stainless steel will scratch very easily.

Don’t reuse appliances or items from the old kitchen. It may seem as if you’re saving money, but an old appliance will stick out like a sore thumb in a new environment, says Jacqui. Find other ways to economize.

It didn’t take long to make. Probably an hour to build and sand the two ledges. I applied the stain and allowed it to dry overnight. I then applied three coats of polyurethane allowing them to each dry for 24 hours. Most of the time is dry time for the finish.
