Hickory Cottage Update Part 3 and Consignment Find

Hello Dear Readers!

Things have been moving along at Hickory Cottage.

That also means that I have been really busy

with so many selections/details for the house.

My main project this week is to do the final selections

for the kitchen and bathroom fixtures.

In the meantime, when in the neighborhood,

I visit my fav consignment shop for possible

pieces of furniture that I may need . I am still on the lookout

for a coffee table and some nightstands for my bedroom.

Here is what I found:

A beautiful chair and ottoman by Baker furniture.

What caught my eye was the placard … BAKER …

One of my  favorite furniture brands.

I am not sure if I shall keep the existing fabric,

even though it is beautiful and in excellent shape.

Not so much going on at the house that you can actually notice.

Just some rough plumbing,  a/c work,  facia board

and framing for the porch has begun.

We will be doing a walk-thru for the electrical this week.

Here is my view when I will stand at the kitchen sink.

Since I will be making decisions

on the bathroom and kitchen fixtures this week too,

I will show you some that I am thinking of:

Love this bridge kitchen faucet.

Bath fixtures:

I have narrowed down the master bathroom mirrors

to two different styles.

My hubby has chosen his favorite . . . the Jacqueline by Uttermost.

Then there is the Braydon frameless mirror by Uttermost

for a more transitional look.

I have my favorites as far as mirrors and fixtures.

Making my decisions this week….will let you know.

Do you have any favorites? Would love to know!!!

The temps will be more pleasant (high of 80) starting Tuesday!

We need that break!

My hubby’s team played in the almost 100 degree heat

this past weekend. It was brutal to say the least.

I was under the tent, but still very hot!!

I wish you all a most beautiful day! Stay cool!

Love your style! Thank you for sharing the details such as faucets, light fixtures, mirrors, doorknobs, etc., as well as furniture and styling that you are considering for your new home! We’ve been trying to update our home and the hardware is either broken or looking tired. It’s a bit overwhelming trying to find the right, classic look and your tips and sharing what’s out there and narrowing it down is so helpful! I look forward to your posts. Thanks again and again!

As this is your ‘aging in place home’ have you considered having faucets with lever type handles ( you show a few above) when renovating our home we actually had all the interior door hardware changed to levers from knobs. As we age turning a knob becomes more difficult. I chose beautiful knob type fixtures in my bathroom and find them increasingly difficult to turn with my hands especially since my husband feels the need to turn them tightly off! Something to consider when looking at hardware/fixtures for your lovely new home!

Well first off that chair and ottoman are fantastic! I imagine you’ll have them reupholstered but they’re pretty neat the way they are. Your view from the kitchen is great! I would definitely go with the lever type faucets as opposed to the knob style. Both the mirrors a lovely, one fancier than the other! I think the transitional look is great and will survive design changes as you go along through the years.

It’s looking beautiful! I like the 2nd Weymouth faucet for the bath, but they’re all very pretty. We found that higher bridge on the faucet, together with a deeper basin bowl, allows for being able to wash your hair in the sink if need be. The transitional mirrors are gorgeous, such clean lines but still so much style. Your chair was a great find! Sounds like being in the neighborhood of your favorite shop is going to be both a blessing and a curse! Oh well, you can always turn over your unwanted items by consigning yourself!

What a beautiful French style chair/ottoman and Baker is such a classic furniture line. I imagine although its in great shape you might have it reupholstered. All your fixture selections are equally as beautiful so I know it wont be easy making final choices.

If you are going with nickel brush fixtures I like the second mirror better but if you are going with brass finishes then I like the first mirror your hubby selected.

I am guessing you will have the chair and ottoman redone. I actually thought, when I first saw the picture that the mirror was what you found:) I love the first mirror as it looks more like you and your taste. Isn’t it fun choosing all the details!!

Looking forward to the cool down this week. Tired of the hot and sticky even though we still have August to get through.

Another great find, Shirley. Love the chair and ottoman. The advice given about faucets was so good. A single lever is so much easier to use and clean!
