it's all about the hospitable home
You know that love at first sight moment,
whether it be an inanimate object or a human being.
Well on this day, it was this home for me. The 2015 Southern Living Idea Home.
It had me at the copper lantern hanging on the front porch and entering the home and seeing
straight through to the gorgeous landscape of the valleys of the beautiful farmland.
So on the the final part of the Southern Living House Tour . . .
~ ~ we will move on to the bedrooms and other details of the home. . .
~ ~ ~ ~ and the beauty of Palmetto Bluff.
When you enter the Master Suite . . . you immediately feel a sense of calm.
The metal canopy bed is by Ballard Designs.
Duvet from Dillards . . . drapery fabric is Suzanne Kasler Signature Linen Blanc by Ballard.
Love this sitting area in the room . . . There are doors in the room that lead out to the patio.
~ ~ Chair and lamp by Huff Huffington
Love the starburst mirror over the bed . . there was no resource listing for it . . .
~ ~ however, it can very well be from Ballards.
Beautiful free standing tub by Kohler.
~ ~ Note to self: in your next house, all tubs will be free standing . . . no more garden tubs!
The vanity configuration was of the separate his and hers vanity . . .
~ ~ oh, that’s me in the mirror!
These sliding “barn doors” lend to no interference of doors swinging either into the closet or into the hall. .
~ ~ and they look great!
When you come up the stairs to the other bedrooms . . .
There is a great sitting area that overlooks the rooms below . .
~ ~ where this is your view . . . I love those double chandys!!! (Percival Chandeliers by Circa Lighting)
Now we enter one of the guest rooms . . .
You get that same serene and calm feeling when you enter the room . . .
However, I have to tell you what I loved best . . .
The gorgeous view!!!
I was rearranging the furniture in my head again…trying to envision a way to sit and enjoy that view!
Even the guest bathroom had a beautiful view!
I did love the beautiful subway tile they used throughout the house . . .
~ ~ and made note of the beautiful floor tile for the “future”…
I can tell you now that this is my favorite bedroom in the house…
I love the coziness of the sofa in the alcove . . . however, I wondered how the desk would look there…
When at a desk, I like a view . . .
Girls Bathroom . . . vanity
On one end of the bathroom is the closet . . . hmmm, we were not too crazy about this closet.
At first we thought it was the linen closet, but it was actually the clothes closet for the girl’s bedroom.
Enter the boys’ room . .
I love that they painted the window frames black…such a great statement to the room.
Love the chair and note the great interior door…the woodwork in this house was really nice…
~ ~ we were admiring lots of planked walls in the house. It was hard taking a pic of them.
The bathroom . . . that is very similar to the girls’ bathroom.
And so is the closet . . as I stated before . . . not my favorite.
Between the Boys’ and Girls’ Room is a small room designated “The Bunk Room”
Love this cozy room for “extra guests” or a place where you can retreat and read. . .
~ ~ and enjoy another great view.
At the end of each bunk is a convenient table.
This is the mudroom/powder room area that is accessed through a breezeway from the garage . .
~ ~ or the side of the house. You can see a peek of the wallpaper in the powder room.
Soon after I clicked a picture, someone popped into the powder room…so I did not get a pic inside.
On the other side of the “mudroom” is a great work table.
We left the house and headed to the Town Square of Palmetto Bluff to have lunch.
The town is so very quaint . . .
After lunch we took a walk on the brick pavered sidewalks under the canopy of beautiful moss covered oak trees.
These are the ruins that are in the center of the town square . . .
There was a beautiful little church in the town . . .
It was just as beautiful inside . .
So as we leave this beautiful Low Country town of Palmetto Bluff . . .
~ ~ I snap a picture from the car of those wonderful moss covered oaks and the gas lit lanterns . . .
I say buh-bye to that house of my dreams . . . asking hubby, can you build me one just like it?
He smiled . . . and we will leave it at that!…

Today I present Part Two of the Southern Living 2014 Idea House
~ ~ located in Palmetto Bluff, (Bluffton), South Carolina.
Part One of this wonderful house was revealed earlier this week.
There was so much to see and take in with this home.
I must say that the way the house was built around the views was my favorite thing about this home.
However, there is a room that was my absolute favorite!…so I will start with that room today!
It’s called “The Clutter Room”
A room where it is an extension of the kitchen . . . like a bit of a butler’s pantry . . .
A place where you can create and have a place to arrange flowers from the garden . . .
And great shelves for storage . . . or your “staging area”
Maybe this is one of my favorite rooms as I hope that one day I can have a similar “clutter room” like this.
I say that the “clutter room” was my favorite room IN the house…but I must say, if you ask me . .
~ ~ what was my most favorite part of the entire “property” ?. . .
~ ~ ~ ~ it would have to be the magnificent lot with the views and outdoor living spaces!
It’s the “ahhh moment”…
And you can also watch the boats go by on the river . . .
All of the above can also be seen from the inside of the house
~ ~ and take notice of that fabulous ceiling!
Let me tell you . . . after sitting out on this patio. . . you get the feeling of such calm. . .
~ ~ thus, I was tempted to go to the “happy hour” setup in the kitchen
~ ~ ~ ~ and make me a drink with a cute umbrella!
One end of the porch . . . loved the curved shape of the side wall.
Love the curved steps which mimics the curves in the side wall at the ends of the porch.
The door at the top of the steps lead into the kitchen…
~ ~ it is great that there is space for a table under the window . . . yet on the other hand . . .
~ ~ ~ I think I would have made a pass through bar area that is level with the kitchen window .
Just sayin’ . . . .
The landscaping was so gloriously done . . . leave it up to the Southern Living Plant experts and designers . .
~ ~ to create such an oasis.
And not a detail left undone in placing beautiful containers of plants throughout the house.

We have already decided that in our next home, the roof will definitely be a metal one . .
~ ~ and maybe a red one!!
Like this one!!…Would love to build one similar to this one . . . but without the huge price tag . . .
~ ~ and square footage.

I would like to end this post with a story that made my “heart happy”
When we went in to the town square of Palmetto Bluff to have lunch and walk around . . .
Seeing sites like this:
Beautifully tree lines streets . . . of moss covered oaks.
And wonderful palm trees along the edge of the water . . .
After taking some photos after lunch and walking to the car . . .
~ ~ I heard a voice . . something like, “Shirley, is that you?” . . .
~ ~ ~ ~ I turned around to see these two very nice ladies who were addressing me.
Yes, it is . . . Housepitality Designs?….yes, WE FOLLOW YOU…WE LOVE YOUR BLOG!!!
Eeeck…someone from far away recognized me and follows me!…How great is that!…as I said . . .
It made my day . . . and made my “heart happy” !!
After a short conversation. I took a pic of them before we left.
Meet Marlene and Doreen….thanks ladies!…as I said, you “made my heart happy” !!
And my hope to you all today, is that you encounter something or someone special that makes your “heart happy”.

This past weekend, I was so happy to have been able to visit the Southern Living 2014 Idea House . . .
~ ~ located in Palmetto Bluff (Bluffton), South Carolina, while traveling with friends.
When possible, I try to make it to the Idea Houses each year.
Way back when . . . when Southern Living built several Idea Houses a year across the South . . .
~ ~ I toured all three (Texas, Georgia, and North Carolina) one year.
This home was beautifully decorated by Suzanne Kasler who designs for Ballard Designs.
The view walking up to the house . . . a true Low Country design.
Nestled in the pines of the Low Country . . .
~ ~ I have always loved metal roofs . . . taking notes for our “one day downsized home”.
When you walk into the house there is a foyer with this beautiful gallery wall.
The dining room is right off the foyer as you walk into the house . . .
~ ~ you can see the front door in the background.
The dining area was an area that the volunteers used . . . so it was hard to get a shot of it without “people”

I was talking to my friend and we both agreed that a large table in the area of the two sofas that are up
against the large windows would be great and what a great view to have while dining.
Sitting at those sofas do not lend for views as your back is to the windows.
Hey, I was re-arranging the furniture!
Also, where the dining room is, we thought that a great grouping of 4 chairs and a table for conversation. . .
~ ~ would be great . . . chairs that swivel that is . . so you can move toward the conversations in the room!

~ ~ can you imagine sitting at the table and looking out to that gorgeous view?

As you can see . . . this is the kitchen . . . where there is no upper cabinetry.
They were taking advantage of the views outside . . .
Two sets of shelving flank one side of the kitchen.
For added storage, there are two sets of these pantries . . . the other is directly across the room.
Truly has lots of storage space in these pull out pantries . . . and a cabinet underneath.
Also, notice the great planked ceiling in the kitchen . . . many of the walls in the house were wood planked.

The lobby was decorated with balloons and “bubbles” by the sponsor “Tide” . . .
And the best thing of all is to be able to meet people for the first time and see old friends too!!
