Organizing and Refreshing the Dining Room

Organizing and refreshing the dining room was on my list

of small projects after the Christmas decorations were taken away.

I have been on the lookout for some storage items for this room too.

The dining room for the winter is also acting as a mini greenhouse

for plants that are waiting to be brought back out on the porch in the Spring.

Dining Room Hutch Makeover

Literally, on a whim, I decided that the hutch needed a makeover.

The hutch’s contents were pretty much the same for over a year

and I thought it was time for a change.

But what do I place in the hutch? More dishes? That would not be difficult

as I do have plenty of those. But I wanted to do something different . . . different for me.

I began gathering pieces and started putting away the existing china and crystal.

A Summer Vignette Featuring Vintage Japanese Fishing Floats

When my mom traveled to Alaska to visit my niece who lived there for a short time,

she bought some vintage Japanese fishing floats that she remembered as a child in Japan.

She carefully packed them all in her suitcase and gifted them to me and my sisters.

That was many years ago, when these floats were not as popular.

I treasure these glass floats and use them in my decor all year round.

How Texture Makes the Difference in Your Decor/ Vignette

Combining textures in a vignette always lend for a prettier and more interesting look.

Whether the vignette be in a bookcase, on a table or any other setting,

the combination of many types of textures is always the key.

Mixing Classic and Trendy Styles

I am a bit fickle when it comes to design.

What can I say, I love it all and try not to blend too many different looks and styles

to confuse my interiors.

I am truly a classic kind of gal. Give me a great strand of pearls

as opposed to sparkly beads and bangles . . . but then again I will take the sparkly diamonds any day!

To keep my interiors fresh, I like to mix the trends with the classic.

A Great Day of Antiquing

Well, most of you know that I love a great field trip.

I love to travel and I have no problems with driving hours to get to a great place

to antique. And so does my field trip partner.

So off we went this week, traveling to one of our favorite places . . .

The Antique Marketplace in Lemoyne, PA.

Antique Marketplace Lemoyne-Housepitality Designs

Now I know some people like to keep their favorite spots a bit of a secret, but me being me,

love to share so that others can experience a great place to find things.

It is fabulous as soon as you go through their doors.

I spotted this cutie as soon as we walked in . . .

It is a combination of a step ladder and hand truck.

This green demijohn was huge . . . it was a great price to start with and an additional 15% off . . .

So what did I do . . . I passed it up. Why do I do that?

Antique purchases from Lemoyne, PA-Housepitalty Designs

So here are SOME of our purchases for the day.

I cannot wait till June/July as this marketplace is expanding and adding another 100 vendors!!

The next day I paid a visit to Rust and Feathers with my friend and field trip partner.

With two purposes . . . she was filling her booth with new goodies and I was shopping.

When I turned the corner, I saw this fabulous piece in Mary Alice’s booth . . .

Wish I had a spot for it!

Isn’t this a super cute collection? . . . Love that red farm table!

I have been on the lookout for more vintage garden items . . .

I kept walking around saying, “now where can I put this, and where can I put that?”

Now that rusty, crusty typewriter stand would be great for a plant stand, or when painted a cute color,

great in a kitchen . . . or my laundry room . . . hmmmmm.

I have more to share on this wonderful place. . . and there is a “new person in town” in this

antique shop . . . I was wowed when I saw some of the beautiful things that the new vendor was

bringing in and got to take a great peek of her setting up. Can’t wait to come back and see it

all done.

Had a great time and looking forward to the next!

Do you travel great lengths to shop at your favorite places with ones who love to do the same?

Have a great weekend !!

My Favorite Dance, The Furniture Shuffle

Do you remember the Macarena? . . . Well, I was doing the Furniture Shuffle to the tune of the Macarena!

OK . . . do you now have that song in your head . . . waving your arms and shaking your hips?

My sister Chrissy is a great dancer and dances the Macarena very well. Happy Birthday Chrissy! 🙂

But I must say that I can outdo her on the Furniture Shuffle! 🙂

Well, I was raising my arms and shaking my hips as I carried furniture across the room . . . Hey Macarena!!

If you remember a little bit ago, I polled my readers as to what look they preferred in this space.

Overwhelmingly, you preferred what I preferred, the bench. Hubby had a vote too. He always has a vote!

How I Gave One Area Three Different Looks

I finally undecorated the large great room tree and the space always looks so different after the

tree is removed. The item that was previously in the space found its way back; however, me, being me,

could not leave it alone.

I started experimenting with some different looks.

Today, you will see how I gave this area three different looks.

I started by moving the antique French Commode that was in the Great Room, to this space.

French Buffet Woodland Christmas Vignette

The first thing I did when returning from Florida for Thanksgiving . . .

~ ~ was to decorate my French buffet for Christmas.

I hope you all had a most wonderful Thanksgiving.

My family and I traveled to Florida . . . to my sister’s home . . . where my mom also lives.

We were there for a week and I was a bit out of cyber sync. . .

~ ~ as my sister lives in the country . . no cell phone coverage and slow internet.

So I took a bit of a blog break.

A French Country Mantel Vignette

I realized I had the same things on my mantel since March!…time for a change!

So I put on my dancing shoes and got ready to do “the vignette shuffle” !!

I thought . . . hmmm . . . not quite feeling the “summer mantel” today . . .

~ ~ as it was really hot today and do not want to be reminded of that!

And then, it is hard to do a “coastal feel” with the backdrop of my antique shutters.

So with my dancing shoes on, I took a look around and decided to go “simply stated French Country”.

French Country Mantel

I put on my french beret and began gathering things that I already had . . .

~ ~ either purchased here or in France.

The little demijohn was purchased here at a yard sale and I obtained the antique book in France.

Actually, the oh so wonderful shop owner gave it to me!

And what says French Country more than lavender!

Another demijohn was added to the left side of the “reproduction confit pot” filled with lavender.

I love the simplicity of this mantel vignette.

However, I needed something to tie it all together . . .

French Country Hearth

French Country Mantel

I grabbed the French Gathering Basket from across the room and placed it on the hearth.

Not only did I feel it tied everything together, but it also hid the “black hole” of the fireplace a bit.

The grain sack that I purchased on my trip to France remains in the basket . . .

~ ~ it adds another level of texture and color.

I love this little change . . . it makes my heart happy!

And speaking of making my heart happy . . . I am preparing to leave to go to the Haven Conference.

I made sure that I left hubby great instructions on watering my plants and holding down the fort!

Well, he does not need any instructions on holding down the fort as he does it so well !!!

So, follow along with me on Instagram and see what is happening at Haven!!

Have a most wonderful day doing something that makes your heart happy!!!
