Plum Love – A Great Room Refresh

Happy Valentine’s Day Everyone!!!

It’s all about love today. But truthfully, every day should be Valentine’s Day.

Every day we should have an emphasis on showing how much we love and care for

those in our lives. Of course, every day cannot be all hearts and flowers.

However, we can show our love for one another in so many ways.

Whether those ways be subtle like a kind note of gratitude,

a phone call to a friend who may need someone who will listen,

or something so memorable as a fistful of flowers . . . you know those that you may

have received from a child who gathered some wildflowers for you on their way home.

Today, this post does have hearts and flowers and some Plum Love – A Great Room Refresh.

Something I Could Not Pass Up

During my travels last month, I had the pleasure of making an overnight stop

on our way home ( in-between trips) and visit our friends

who live on St. Simon’s Island. As soon as we arrived, we were treated to lunch

and a visit with their beautiful grandchildren and daughter in law.

After lunch,  the grands headed back home and JoAnn and I hit the roads and went shopping,

The guys took the bikes and biked on the beaches of Jekyll Island.

While the guys got their exercise from biking,  we get ours by running  . . . . .

in and out of shops!!!  My kind of exercise!

It was on my shopping adventure with JoAnn that I saw something. . . .

Lavender Love

I’m home …. Home Sweet Home.

It was so wonderful being able to spend over 12 days with my mom.

Prior to traveling to be with my mom while my brother and his wife were away,

I was in Florida for 6 days. I had one day between trips.

So it is safe to say that I have spent most of the month of March away.

Glad to be home, but there is so much to catch up on . . .

the house of overdue chores, doctor’s appointments, grocery shopping,

cleaning up my layers of pollen on my porch and patio furniture

and catching up on the blog work.

Today I will share with you some Lavender Love.

Creating Fall Themes and Colors

Creating Fall themes and colors was on the agenda this past week.

With having to deal with a bum hand these past couple of weeks,

there has been more planning than creating.

I knew I wanted a more neutral palette; however, my love for color

keeps creeping into the decor.

I know I will be using more greens, blues, and lavenders this year,

and animal prints too!

Imitation . . . The Sincerest Form of Flattery

I think it was George Bernard Shaw that said,

“Imitation is not just the sincerest form of flattery,

it is the sincerest form of learning.”

And that is what I did today . . . learn . . . from some of the best.

I did it again . . . I took a magazine cover and I tweaked it for a summer vignette.

A Pretty French Print

I unpacked my treasures from our antiquing field trip to Pennsylvania this week . . .

and right away I knew where I wanted to hang a vintage French print that I purchased.

This print was tucked away in a corner and with a price tag of $12.00 and an additional 20% off.

So needless to say, it needed to come home with me.

Love and Lavender {Lavender Wreath}

Lavender a most sensual and calming scent, so what goes together better than love and lavender.

I have always wanted to make a wreath of lavender; however, you know how it is . . .

something on my to do list that I have never marked off . . . until now.

Lavender Wreath Project-Housepitality Designs

I decided to make a heart shaped wreath rather than your typical rounded shape for the

love of lavender theme.

Lavender Wreath Project-Housepitality Designs

I went to my local L’Occitane store and bought some bunches of lavender.

Started wiring the lavender stems on the wreath form. Starting at the bottom at an angle to shape the

bottom of the heart.

I took a while for me to figure out how to form it into a heart shape by using a round wreath form and

after tweaking it here and there, It finally got it to look like a heart.

I walked around the house with the wreath and decided that this mirror needed something pretty on it and

to add some texture and depth to the wall.

While my hubby had the heavy little giant (stairwell ladder) out . . . I decided to change out the plates

and add a smaller plate to the bottom of the sconces.

The plates are Pomona by Johnson Brothers.

Note to self: Need to buy more of the disc plate hangers!

With this lavender wreath project, it morphed into a new gallery wall vignette.

Lavender Love

A few weeks ago, I presented my great ironstone finds.

I found four salad plates and bowls and later discovered that they matched a tureen I found . . .

~ ~ at another antique shop!

I placed these plates and bowls in an antique tool caddy . . .

~ ~ then placed that caddy on the dining room table.

Adding French Country Style to the Coffee Table

Well, I find I have a “time limit” of how long a vignette stays on the coffee table. . .

Time’s up for the crystal theme . . .

~ ~ and time for a more casual feel of French Country.

Coffee Table Vignette

So what do you do? . . . you add some lavender buds in a crystal compote.

Then you add stems of lavender in a “pretend French Confit Jar” . . .

And add a pretty violet for color and texture and a bird bath of lavender vs. water . . .

What would a French Country vignette be without wonderful Charles Faudree books . . .

I am loving the wonderful smell of the lavender as I sit on the sofa . . .

Have a wonderful day of enjoying the wonderful smells of summer . . .

Lavender and Homespun

I changed out the centerpiece today.

From my shells and candles…and upside down candlesticks turned flower vases…

… lavender and homespun.

The wooden box of lavender that proudly sits upon the beautiful homespun tea towel.

A tea towel that I purchased from my friend….from the antique fair…..

So until the lavender starts screaming…take me outside…..

…..I shall enjoy them and their beautiful fragrance.

And then, I may have to heed to the dry species…

Lavender and homespun…what couldn’t be better?….
