How To Makeover a Winter Bedroom to Spring

The news lately is all about how awful the winter storms are . . .

Places like Boston with record breaking snowfalls and here this week we are dealing with a winter storm

with mainly ice . . . hate ice, would rather have snow!

While hunkered down in the house with a driveway like an ice skating rink,

I decided to make over my bedroom from Winter to Spring,

as I am officially tired of Winter and do not want to embrace it anymore!!

Rainy Days and Mondays…Prepping to update my Home Tour

Rainy days and Mondays…I grew up listening to The Carpenters…

…..what a voice Karen Carpenter had!

It’s been a very rainy couple of weeks…

…..not great for taking pictures.

DSC_0950

I have been preparing to update my Home Tour…it is pretty outdated on the blog…

…..but between travels and gloomy days here lately…

………..I have not been very successful in doing this.

DSC_0953

I have been tweaking bookcases and table tops lately…

My bookcase in the great room is backed by cherry beadboard.

DSC_0948

I have not found the “backing” that I want to place on the bookshelves just yet…

…..so in the meantime, I gathered all the white accessories I had around the house…

……….so that the bookcase would have a lighter look.

The white decorative items are from places such as Pottery Barn and Carolina Pottery.

DSC_0935

This large “artichoke” finial was downstairs…my Ethan Allen bargain.

I found it on their clearance table that was originally marked $100 reduced to $10. 🙂

It goes well with the colors in the new chair.

DSC_0956

I do not follow the rules of having no personal photos in the main living space…

…..as I love to see my favorite photos of my family and friends.

DSC_0937

I am contemplating moving the Wedgwood and Roseville pieces…

…..but then again, I do not want an entirely “white collection”…

PicMonkey Collage

These “birds of a feather” appear throughout the house in many vignettes.

DSC_0930

So here is “one-half” of the bookcase “re-design”….still tweaking the other side!

And getting back to the “rainy days”….

What do you do on a rainy day?….

I was in the Atlanta area this past holiday weekend to celebrate my brother’s retirement..

…..it was great to get together with all my siblings and mother.

Unfortunately there was not much “boat time” on his lake as it rained every day!!.

But we had a great time in spite of the rain.

I took part of a day to meet up with Kim…to go shopping..

DSC_0924

Little did you know that there were lots of packages behind the chair when I was snapping pics!

As you can see, we had a very productive day!

Hope you had a wonderful 4th of July holiday!!!

Ever So Clever, Ever So Pretty Friday, #4 {House Number Pillow}

Happy Friday everyone!

Today, I did an “easy peasy” creation that I took inspiration from the gals at 11 Magnolia Lane.

IMG_2235-1

It is from a Christy’s front porch when she featured her home tour.

I do eventually want to do exactly what she did, but with some time constraints I did a similar version for today.

DSC_8786

I bought a pillow from HomeGoods, and some house numbers from Lowe’s Home Improvement.

DSC_8796

The numbers are secured by the small nails that were provided and hot glue.

DSC_8794

Easy peasy!!!

DSC_8795

I think this method is a great quick decorating project…with my busy week, this fit the bill!

However, when there is more time, you can make those wonderful pillows and stencil the numbers as Christy did.

DSC_8793

This project cost about $16.00…

Hope you enjoyed my “easy peasy” project, inspired by the gals at 11 Magnolia Lane.

This little cutie has been my helper this week!

AND….at this time I would like to tell you something that is very exciting for “me”…:)

The fine folks at POTTERY BARN are featuring my Spring Mantel on their blog tomorrow (Saturday, March 30th)

I will be posting a link to it tomorrow morning…did you feel the earth move?…

…..that was me doing cartwheels across the floor!!…

Have a wonderful weekend and a most joyous Easter!

OCEAN BREEZES TABLESCAPE

Dreaming of beautiful ocean breezes as the temps were in triple digits.

Seems as though everyone is heading to the beaches…to have some fun in the sun…to escape the heat…

Even the “Bachelorette” escaped to Curacao…that gorgeous island…

…..Did you see those spectacular beaches…the beaches where Karah leaves her footprints in the sand!

mambo-beach-curacao-1024x767

But alas, since I do not live in Curacao…I thought that I would pretend that I am there…

…..having dinner…with ocean breezes and sand and shells…and footsies in the sand.

DSC_2543

I was heading down the highway with my co-pilot, Barb from Everyday Home….on our way to the Haven Conference….

…..On the way, is the Pottery Barn Outlet in Gaffney, South Carolina…

………and of course, my car went into auto pilot and found its way to the parking lot in front of Pottery Barn.

Barb and I were ooooing and ahhhing the gorgeous collection of shell plates and accessories…

DSC_2545

I so loved those gorgeous shell plates…but my that little guy on my shoulder was speaking to me….

…..do I really need them?…and then I had an epiphany!!! In the middle of the day…

……….as I usually get those epiphanies in the middle of the night (love that word epiphany)….

DSC_2522

I shall reveal my “epiphany” later in the post….In the meantime….

I purchased the shells at the dollar store….and used a staple of The South….Grits!..for the sand effect…

DSC_2527

The shells come in a cute little basket…so I used them for coasters..filled with shells

…..talk about 2 uses out of one package!

DSC_2526

I also used the baskets at the base of the candle holder to contain the shells…

…..thought it would add great texture.

DSC_2530

I spy Karah’s flip flops!…

DSC_2524

I so love this oyster shell (or is it a clamshell?) bowl…makes a wonderful centerpiece on any table…

DSC_2531

Love the look of the daisies in the bowl..but I really think that succulents would look wonderful too…

DSC_2533

DSC_2529

Shells and Grits…what more can a Southern Girl ask for!!

DSC_2557

I folded the napkins in the pinwheel design…as it looked great under the shell plate…

DSC_2553

DSC_2548

DSC_2550

Love the way the pinwheel shaped napkin looks “starish” under the plate…..

DSC_2534

So…now to my epiphany…

I knew how much my little Sister Chrissy loves all thing coastal and beachy…

…..I loved these dishes so much that I felt that someone needs to enjoy them more than I…

………..and that would be my little sister Chrissy (she will always be my little sister)….

41417_1074575434_8066150_n

Isn’t she pretty???…yes, she is!

SO HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRISSY….YOU HAVE BEEN VIEWING YOUR BIRTHDAY GIFTS!!…

…..HOPE YOU LIKE THEM…and hows that for dual purposings…you got a great gift and I got a great post out of it!!!

And I hope you enjoyed my “I’m pretending I’m in Curacao Tablescape”…Curacao, the home of that lucky duck, Karah!!

Everlasting flowers…

Several years ago…I went to a gorgeous showcase home and my heart stopped….

……….an incredible display of floral plates in a 3-D type of design on the wall.

I never forgot that vision….

Until I walked into one of my favorite stores that just opened up in my town….

……….Arhaus….love that store!

When I entered the store…..my heart stood still again….

The wall before:

DSC_1594

DSC_1996

I saw these beauties…they were clustered on a wall…

I started with three….with the possibility of adding more….

DSC_1994

Placed over the bed…that space needed something….

…..something other than a picture….something different.

DSC_1995

They seemed to “fit the bill”….

DSC_1992

PicMonkey Collage

Now look at my collage…I just figured out how to do this!

After KariAnne’s post today on her “picmonkey features”…..

……….I thought that I would get my “rear in gear” (oh..that rhymed!)….

…………….and learn this feature!

DSC_1997

Now, I am going to be collaging away…

…..maybe I will change my middle name to “Collage”….

……….oh that has a nice ring to it…like it better than mine…

……………and don’t ask me what it is!!!

DSC_1973

So many changes in store for this second guest room….

…..just a short time ago, this room was filled with exercise equipment…

Really needs paint…on the walls….on the furniture.

I added these cute burlap curtains……

DSC_1976

Dreary day…so lots of shadows…but not complaining as the “front” brought us gorgeous temps in the 70’s…

Then later I will move on to create a “work space” for me….in the meantime..

…..there are temporary fixtures in that space.

DSC_1975

PicMonkey Collage

Collage….yep…that’s my middle name….

PicMonkey Collage

There…I did it again….

DSC_1969

So I shall leave you now….as guests are to arrive very soon!….

Have a wonderful day!

I am happily joining the following “parties”:
