it's all about the hospitable home
Where has Spring gone?
The older I get, the more I tend to savor each season,
as they go by so quickly. So in a blink of an eye, Spring has passed us by
and Summer is here.
Therefore . . . . Let the summer decorating begin.
For some reason I always start in the sunroom.
Summer is the time we all think about heading to the beach.
However, some of us do not live near a beach,
for us it is about a 2 1/2 hour drive.
So to have that classic summer feel in our home, it is why most of us love to decorate
with coastal/beach elements.
So…the mirror that was located in the foyer needed a new home…
……….and the lamp too.
But the mirror and the lamp would not look good over this space:
So I “shopped the house”….
Searching for an appropriate piece of furniture for this area…
It had to be narrow.
I thought this table may do the trick….
It actually is a sofa table that I purchased from Ethan Allen years ago..
I think this is the piece for this space.
I think I have convinced my hubby to paint the a/c and outlet covers to match the paint.
They really stand out on the wall…:(
The table has enough length to accommodate all the accessories and lamp.
I originally had crystal serving pieces on the bottom shelf when it was in the dining room.
So I needed something to place on that shelf.
So much for my zero dollars “domino effect”….
A trip to Hobby Lobby and 4 baskets later…I think it was just what this shelf needed!
I took accessories from around the room including this one..
Actually this is a covered crystal jar that I placed on a Pottery Barn candle holder…
…..it actually worked out well…do ya think?
I bought a set of these candle holders at the Pottery Barn Outlet..
…..on my way home from Haven…
…………with the intention of possibly using them as “lifts/stands”
This is the other candle holder that I used…turned it upside down and it makes a great stand.
I used my Johnson Brothers Pomona plates…
…..as they worked well with the color scheme and has a bit of a “Fall” feel…
I am pleased that I was able to relocate the lamp to this area…and my sentimental mirror too!
I am really enjoying that the mirror reflects the shutters over the mantel…
And how it reflects the outdoors….
My Trader Joe’s orchid was happy there…so I made sure it stayed in the same place….
Now…where did the cabinet go that was in this area?….
It just swapped places with the sofa table that was in the dining room….
This cabinet will live here until I can get my window seat built in this area…
…..all in due time…
But until then…I am having fun re-designing the “domino affected” areas….

But, really…you know what you are doing….
…..because when we first walk through your doors, we smile.
We smile at those beautiful flowers that greet us…saying welcome!
But lately, I have really been gravitating to your beautiful orchids….
I always have at least one blooming orchid in my house….
…..but they make me so happy, that I have to spread the “happiness” throughout the rooms.
And, at the great price of $12.99…you cannot go wrong.
This beautiful pink orchid has been blooming for at least 2 months…
…..so, you can have this beauty, that makes you smile, for a little over $1.50 a week…:)

Life is good…with flowers…
Saying good morning…it’s going to be a great day.

Dreaming of beautiful ocean breezes as the temps were in triple digits.
Seems as though everyone is heading to the beaches…to have some fun in the sun…to escape the heat…
Even the “Bachelorette” escaped to Curacao…that gorgeous island…
…..Did you see those spectacular beaches…the beaches where Karah leaves her footprints in the sand!
But alas, since I do not live in Curacao…I thought that I would pretend that I am there…
…..having dinner…with ocean breezes and sand and shells…and footsies in the sand.
I was heading down the highway with my co-pilot, Barb from Everyday Home….on our way to the Haven Conference….
…..On the way, is the Pottery Barn Outlet in Gaffney, South Carolina…
………and of course, my car went into auto pilot and found its way to the parking lot in front of Pottery Barn.
Barb and I were ooooing and ahhhing the gorgeous collection of shell plates and accessories…
I so loved those gorgeous shell plates…but my that little guy on my shoulder was speaking to me….
…..do I really need them?…and then I had an epiphany!!! In the middle of the day…
……….as I usually get those epiphanies in the middle of the night (love that word epiphany)….
I shall reveal my “epiphany” later in the post….In the meantime….
I purchased the shells at the dollar store….and used a staple of The South….Grits!..for the sand effect…
The shells come in a cute little basket…so I used them for coasters..filled with shells
…..talk about 2 uses out of one package!
I also used the baskets at the base of the candle holder to contain the shells…
…..thought it would add great texture.
I spy Karah’s flip flops!…
I so love this oyster shell (or is it a clamshell?) bowl…makes a wonderful centerpiece on any table…
Love the look of the daisies in the bowl..but I really think that succulents would look wonderful too…
Shells and Grits…what more can a Southern Girl ask for!!
I folded the napkins in the pinwheel design…as it looked great under the shell plate…
Love the way the pinwheel shaped napkin looks “starish” under the plate…..
So…now to my epiphany…
I knew how much my little Sister Chrissy loves all thing coastal and beachy…
…..I loved these dishes so much that I felt that someone needs to enjoy them more than I…
………..and that would be my little sister Chrissy (she will always be my little sister)….
Isn’t she pretty???…yes, she is!
SO HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRISSY….YOU HAVE BEEN VIEWING YOUR BIRTHDAY GIFTS!!…
…..HOPE YOU LIKE THEM…and hows that for dual purposings…you got a great gift and I got a great post out of it!!!

I did it!!…I finally did it..
….Another major milestone for me….not much for most bloggers out there…
………but for me, I finally completed my first painted furniture project.
I must say, it was fun…and scary at the same time….
….For I was painting a piece that I have had for a very long time…a piece that was about 100 years old….
From the pic, it looks in pretty good shape…but the top was truly not great…lots of deep scratches and burn marks
from the previous owner…this piece was purchased from an elderly woman who said it has been in her family for a long
time…this person was 85 at the time I purchased it 20 years ago for $50, along with 2 side chairs..such a bargain!
It is a Wisconsin Slider…a table that slides out to seat 12….
All these years I kept a dresser scarf over it to hide the scratches and burn marks…could not be refinished as the
top is veneer….
The table has beautiful carved legs…
So here I go…painting away…
and away….
and then distressed…
and distressed…A totally different look..
This is the foyer before….
And this is after…
Replaced the secretary and added the table, mirror and one more chair…
The mirror I painted a while ago…it is a mirror that I had since childhood…
Come on in….
I found this lamp at HomeGoods a couple of months ago…waiting to place it on the “new table”….

Caught a little rainbow…my room is a multitude of rainbows in the morning…reflections from the swarovski crystals
hanging in the windows….
and another “magical rainbow”…
Next project…to paint that darn a/c return!!…You can see where the secretary landed in the background…the linen chest was relocated to our bedroom…(that’s another future post)….

I am showing this image again…for MAYBE in a short while, this wall may change…
I told my hubby about these shutters I found…he went to see them and was smitten…so here is a sneak peek…
