First Impressions {Velvet Pumpkins}

They say that first impressions are important.

The curb appeal of your home is definitely a first impression of your property.

A beautiful door can also be the first impression of your personality.

A yellow door of happiness, a purple door of creativeness . . .

When you enter through the doors of a home, I would say the first impression

of the soul of the house is in the foyer/entry.

Fall Foyer Antique French Buffet Vignette

It was time to “fall-i-fy” the foyer.

So what do I do? . . . Do I try to keep with the theme this year of keeping it simple?

Well I tried. Tried to keep most of the items that were already on the antique french buffet

and just embellish with a some touches of Fall.

French Buffet Woodland Christmas Vignette

The first thing I did when returning from Florida for Thanksgiving . . .

~ ~ was to decorate my French buffet for Christmas.

I hope you all had a most wonderful Thanksgiving.

My family and I traveled to Florida . . . to my sister’s home . . . where my mom also lives.

We were there for a week and I was a bit out of cyber sync. . .

~ ~ as my sister lives in the country . . no cell phone coverage and slow internet.

So I took a bit of a blog break.

Antique French Buffet Vignette

The other day, I revealed a new vignette on my mantel . . .

~ ~ and I took several pieces from the antique French Buffet to create the “mantelscape”

Therefore, needless to say, I needed to create a new vignette on the buffet.

So still with my dancing shoes on, doing the “vignette shuffle”, I started gathering items.

I added the French Trophy Plaque which was my very first purchase in France. The date was meaningful !!

The glass molds were another purchase from France that sit upon another French purchase . .

On the other side of the buffet is a vintage chair holding the antique French boot forms . . .

~ ~ the canes were previously in the gathering basket so now they are “hanging their hat” on the chair!

After completing the new vignette, with my dancing shoes still on . . .

~ ~ and turning up the volume of the C.D. of the hit song, “The Vignette Shuffle”. . .

~ ~ ~ ~ tapping to the beat of another vignette makeover done!

If you would like to see how the French Buffet vignette looked like before you can see it HERE.

Hope you find inspiration today with your dancing shoes on, tapping to the beat of the “Vignette Shuffle”

Pumpkin Topiary in a Silver Trophy Bowl

I love topiaries of all kinds…

…..and when I was able to purchase great pumpkins perfect for stacking….

……….from the Farmers’ Market…I was in topiary heaven!

I originally purchased enough pumpkins to make two topiaries for the back porch….

…..then I relocated one of those to the front porch.

Pumpkin Topiary

I headed out again to the Farmers’ Market to get three more to create a new topiary…

…..one to place in the Silver Trophy Bowl in my foyer.

DSC_2166

I purchased this great silver bowl at the antique mall where my booth is located….

…..the inscription says “SOUTHAMPTON CVO PARADE….MAYORS TROPY….1980”

Pinky told me that the CVO parade is actually the 4th of July Parade in Southampton”

Pumpkin Topiary

My hubby asked me why all the pumpkin topiaries???!!..

…..I looked and smiled….he returned the smile.

I had so much fun decorating with these pumpkins this year…

I brought out my Plush Velvet Pumpkins from last year…

I love this book as it was a “gift” from the owner this Antiquities Brocante …

…..a wonderful place where our “French Shopping Group” found many, many treasures!

France Brocanting Trip

Some of my “stash” from this shop…and how did it miss that great magnifying glass in the case!!!

I do not have many Halloween decorations out yet…

…..but I think this Lenox Jack O’ Lantern went well with the Lenox Leaf dish…

DSC_2172

I filled the leaf dish with this great Fall potpourri…

2013 France Trip

I am waiting for this beauty (the buffet, ha!) to arrive in the U.S. from France….

…..so that I can place it in the foyer…(and it just may hide that A/C return)…

Architectural Salvage Heaven {Black Dog Salvage}

This weekend we traveled to Virginia…to the Salem/Roanoke area where my hubby had a tournament.

For a few years now I have always wanted to go to Black Dog Salvage in Roanoke…

…..however the “tournament schedule” did not lend for me to make that trip.

But on Saturday…I had some time between games and traveled to Roanoke and visited the place…

…..where you hear the angels sing as soon as you walk through the door!

More vintage plumbing fixtures..and there was a very large section in the parking lot…

As we were walking through the building we discovered that in the back portion…

…..there were many, many gorgeous booths of private vendors.

As we were leaving…one of the owners (you may recognize him from the show “Salvage Dawgs)

…..was inspecting a fabulous sink brought in by who I am assuming was a picker.

The Foyer {A Reflection of You}

It is said that your foyer should be a reflection of you…

…..when you enter a home, the foyer should set the tone for who lives there.

So I gathered some items for my foyer table that I thought reflected this house.

However, I must say that it would be mainly me…or there would be a baseball glove on that table!!

DSC_0473

DSC_0445

My stained glass piece in the foyer is not only indicative of my love for old architectural things…

…..but it is also a very sentimental piece…a gift from my hubby….

……….and you can read about my very “sentimental gift” at this previous post.

DSC_0434

DSC_0435

Always wanted my home to feel warm and inviting….for family and friends.

I bought this “Bless This House” sheet music book over a year ago at an antique fair…

DSC_0441

And of course there are my favorite crystal pineapples on this table…

…..one of them was a birthday gift from my mom.

DSC_0437

DSC_0461

My treasured “Home Sweet Home” book by John Howard Payne, dated 1882 ….

…..I purchased this book about 20 years ago and paid $25 for it.

I thought back then I was paying a fortune for it..

……….but could not pass this book up and happy that I didn’t!

DSC_0444

Added a favorite pic of my son and his family…a stack of books that reflect my style…

DSC_0450

A classic lamp for a reflection of my traditional style…..

…..and one of my favorite flowers (hydrangea) nestled in a jadite bowl…

………..which reflects my love of vintage dishes.

DSC_0458

There’s that pineapple again….

…..and you can see how I discovered why I love pineapples so much in an upcoming post on Sunday.

DSC_0468

Then there is my total fondness of topiaries…

DSC_0455

DSC_0446

DSC_0448

This topiary is nestled in a special blue transferware chamber pot…

…..this was a gift from a friend/former co-worker of mine many years ago..

DSC_0475

So…is your foyer a reflection of you…your home…your family?…

Hope you enjoyed my foyer vignette today…a reflection of our home and what we love.

Have a wonderful day!!!
