It all began with a Garden Stool

A couple of weekends ago, I was in Richmond, Virginia

attending one of my hubby’s tournaments.

Between games, I did the usual.

I looked up the nearby HomeGoods from my phone and off I went.

I do love shopping in HomeGoods in other cities

as I do find things that my local stores do not have.

Inspiration from a Magazine Cover

I love my shelter magazines.

As a teenager, I would forego buying a tube of lipstick and buy a House Beautiful or a

Better Homes and Gardens magazine instead.  It brought me hours of joy dreaming of interiors

I hoped to have someday.

I must admit, I am a magazine hoarder and keep special issues or boxes of a favorite magazine.

I Couldn’t Leave Them Behind, So I Broke My Own Rule

I couldn’t leave them behind, so I broke my own rule.

My rule of trying to re-design my interiors, using what I already had in the house.

I was doing pretty good, until I saw these.

Temptation set in, and it won.

The Power of Flowers

The power of flowers.

Flower Power as they described it in the 60’s.

They impact our lives in so many ways.

Flowers are one of the great things in life that are truly powerful.

Powerful in that they can put a smile on your face, change a mood, or

make a meal more tasty when you gaze upon the simplest of arrangements on a table.

Flowers turn a gloomy day to sunshine, make a mundane task like washing dishes

not so bad, as you look at a beautiful vase of flowers strategically placed by the sink.

I love flowers, as you all do, and always have them in my home.

It Started With A Candlestick, A French Country Vignette

It started with a candlestick.

A pretty candlestick that a friend had purchased, based on my recommendation,

however, the vision turned in another direction and this candlestick did not work.

She offered the candlestick to me rather than returning it as she got it for 50% off.

I gladly accepted!

So I proceeded to walk the house . . . I am sure you know what I mean,

to choose the right home for it.

A Sugar Bowl Is Not Just for the Kitchen

A sugar bowl is not just for the kitchen or dining room, right?!!

That was my answer when my hubby asked why there was a sugar bowl

on the table in the great room.

The Soft Glow of Candlelight and Lavender Roses ~ A Vignette

I think I am the only one around still putting away the Christmas decorations.

They are all out of the rooms throughout the house; however,

they are hiding in the bonus room waiting to be boxed up and put away.

When you know that there is still much work to do

but you need a little break now and then,

you need that quiet place where you can sit

and have a sense of beauty and serenity around you.

Happy 2016 and a Review of My 2015 Favorites

Happy 2016!! I hope you all had a most wonderful New Year’s Eve

welcoming in the New Year.

I have no resolutions this year.

Why?

Maybe it is because my goal for this year is to enjoy each day, each moment

one day at a time, one moment at a time.

The “Que Sera, Sera” attitude . . . to be happy that I woke up and saw the sun

and ended the day with a goodnight kiss.

For today, I will reflect back on my favorite projects of 2015.

Because this project was for my “sweetie”, it was my favorite.

A Table Makeover and A Mossy Candle

It took me a while and after careful consideration

weighing the fact that this table was not a family heirloom or an expensive piece of furniture,

actually a very inexpensive piece from Bombay Company many years ago . . .

I decided to take the plunge and paint it.

Accent table-Housepitality Designs

This accent table is in the master bedroom sitting area. It originally had the typical

Bombay dark wood stain. I painted it with Annie Sloan Pure White and distressed it.

Here is what it looked like before: (table on the left)

I knew as soon as I started painting it, that I would love it. No regrets.

I left the original finish on the drawer and slide out tray.

Now I will move on to paint the table on the other side of the sofa.

When I was placing the candle holder back on the table replacing it with a candle

rather than a faux boxwood ball, I noticed it was a bit stark. It needed texture.

So I got out my bag of moss and my glue gun and I covered the battery operated candle,

with the moss. Now I would not recommend using a real candle if you plan on lighting it! 🙂

Love the way it turned out.

Easy peasy!

I think I will be trying some other finishes on my battery operated candles.

This table received 2 little makeovers of paint and moss!

I am currently attending the Haven Conference for bloggers

having a wonderful time . . . and you can follow me and my great moments on Instagram HERE!

Have a most fabulous weekend doing what you love and being with the ones you love . . . I am!! 🙂

We Should Call It The Ivy House

It’s no secret, I love English Ivy.

I have always admired the beautiful cottages in the English countryside

that have many ivy covered walls.

So if I cannot have that ivy covered wall, I am settling for English Ivy in the house.

My hubby looked around the other day, and stated,

“with all the ivy plants you have around the house, we should call it The Ivy House” . . . funny guy!
